Microsoft has confirmed the weight specifications for both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, revealing that the former is the heaviest console in Xbox history, and the latter is the lightest!
According to new details on the Microsoft Store, the Xbox Series X weighs in at 9.8lbs - that's slightly less than the 11.02lbs of the original PS3, and ahead of the Xbox One X (8.4 lbs).
The Xbox Series S, on the other hand, is significantly lighter at 4.25lbs than both the original Xbox One and its Xbox One S replacement, as well as the Xbox 360 and its many revisions throughout the years.
Here's a comparison to some other consoles (with thanks to GameSpot):
- Xbox Series S: 4.25 lbs
- Xbox Series X: 9.8 lbs
- Xbox One: 7.8 lbs
- Xbox One S: 6.4 lbs
- Xbox One X: 8.4 lbs
- OG Xbox 360: 7.6 lbs
- Xbox 360 Slim: 6.9 lbs
- OG Xbox: 8.8 lbs
- OG PlayStation 4: 6.2 lbs
- PlayStation 4 Pro: 7.3 lbs
If you're curious, estimates for the weight of the PS5 are placing it somewhere around the 10lbs mark as well, suggesting many gamers will have two very heavy behemoths on their hands this November!

I can already imagine it won’t be the heaviest for long.
You'd think that the imperial system would be phased out by now. I understand none of that. How many bananas is that?
@Octane It is as long as 1/100th of a football field and weighs five basketball balls.

I agree. With the PS5 being a huge, grotesque monster of a console, it’ll probably be heavier.
Mmmm, chonky boi
I still think of the OG Xbox as being the heaviest - maybe because of its shape and physical size compared to the Xbox One X.
The Series X still won't be the heaviest console made in the last 20yrs - the Original 60gb PS3 was 11lbs as well as being 'bulky' in shape.
Personally, the weight doesn't matter to me as much as the shape. Once my Console is set up on my solid wood AV unit, I do not need to lift it up again so how it fits in my unit is far more important. The sloping front/back on my PS4 pro means it barely fits because it makes it much 'deeper'. The Series X won't fit vertically where I intend it to go, but will easily fit horizontally and have adequate space around it for ventilation - that's far more important than its weight to me...
Q) What do you make of this?
A) To be honest, the weight of the system itself wasn't something I thought about. I don't move the consoles themselves about much. Ultimately the weight of the system doesn't matter as much compared to size and shape; so long as I can get a good grip on it when picking it up and moving it then it doesn't matter so much how heavy it is.
Q) Happy with these weight specs?
A) I suppose. I admittedly do prefer a lot of my stuff to be heavier, gives it a sturdier feeling to it and more of a presence; though I'm typically thinking of the controllers when I consider weight.
