In case you missed it earlier this week, pre-orders for both the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X are set to go live later this month on September 22nd, and we certainly wouldn't be surprised if they sell out pretty quickly.
In a new blog from Best Buy Canada, the company has confirmed that it expects the two consoles to fly off the (virtual) shelves, and that stock of the two consoles will be "limited":
"Pre-orders will be limited, and we are expecting them to sell out very quickly. Please ensure that your Best Buy online account’s billing and shipping information are up to date prior to September 22."
In regards to the limited stock, we're not sure how limited it is and how it will be split per-region, but it's safe to assume there's going to be a lot of demand for these things come the 22nd.
Microsoft hasn't revealed further information about exactly when pre-orders will begin on that date as of yet, but Best Buy Canada is saying 8AM PDT / 11AM EDT, and UK retailer GAME has stated 8AM BST.
How quickly do you think the Xbox Series S & X will sell out at launch? Give us your thoughts below.

Hell yeah! It’s the holidays after all.
Eh, I was probably going to get the Series S when it's either at a discount or if I see it while buying a PS5.
No surprise here with a pandemic going on. I fully expect both Microsoft & Sony’s consoles will be hard to get this year.
I'll be waiting at midnight refreshing the website..
I got my money site aside for it already so it won't be a problem.
Going to wait til January/February to get the ps5 and maybe the series S, don't see any reason to get either console at launch both have hardly any exclusives at a launch (so far announced), calling it now the Nintendo switch will be the best seller this holiday season
I'm in no rush to get one. Waiting until it's easily available. Until then I'll keep adding to the small but slowly growing nest egg I've been saving thanks to coronavirus. Currently have enough for 2 S consoles lol. Coronavirus got me scared of touching money which has made it easier for me to save up. When I do spend money it's with a glove on my right hand and the money is kept in a food bag in my left pocket so my ungloved left hand can get it out.
Is this the same best buy in the news today for not having enough stock for Mario 3D all stars?!
As much as I think it won't be as easily available as last gen, the new consoles won't sell out quite as quickly as Best Buy are making out here....
@playstation_king
I agree with you on the exclusives.
Nothing major on Xbox and I'm waiting for Horizon 2 for PS5.
Not sure on the Switch though. Unless they have a price drop to counter these next-gen consoles, can't see them taking off with no major system seller for the holidays. They could have done with another Pokemon remake.
They’re probably right but I doubt they would say anything else....
@blinx01 they have a new breath of the wild prequel in hyrule warriors, super mario 3d all stars, super mario 3d + browsers fury, a new limited edition fortnite Nintendo switch, and Mario kart live so far, I think that might be enough tbf
@blinx01 also could definitely see a price drop like the 3ds got a few years after release
Best buy has an "inform me" preorder page. I'm site they are saying this based on how many people have signed up to be informed and how many units they are receiving. I hope I manage to get a unit... I'll be up damned early the 22nd... Or maybe I won't go to bed at all 😅
I'll try to get the preorder for Series X somewhere, but if I can't no biggie. The new Xbox systems wont have anything I can't play on my Xbox one at launch anyway
I need to get a 4k TV first, so I’ll get my XSX when it becomes more readily available. And I have a massive backlog on my Xbox One S & with Game Pass (now with EA Plus), it just keeps getting bigger!
I’ll maybe get one when they inevitably release a second iteration that will be cheaper and fixes any issues this will have on release
@KelticDevil I'm in exactly the same position, no 4K TV yet and a massive and still growing backlog, with EA being added to Game Pass it will only grow..
Certainly a while for me until I get a Series X...
@Xiovanni
The guy who only plays games on Switch complaining about XSX games running on Xbox One? 😂
That’s hilarious, man. How many times is Nintendo gonna sell Wii U games on the Switch at $60 and you Nintendo fans buy them up? Give me a break. 🙄
@Xiovanni
I have no idea what the link you posted to is for because it doesn’t work.
I'll try to get a Series S preorder on Amazon or in store on launch, but if I miss it I can wait til next year.
@KelticDevil What are you talking about
@KelticDevil
Which is why I'm hoping Sony announces the official release date and gives prices and lays out its pre-order plans on this week's show. I want to get in a pre-order for either a PS5 or Series X. I already know MS' plan, if Sony continues to play a game of chicken, I'm going with Xbox first this gen by default.
@blinx01 Don’t underestimate the power of Mario 35!
I wonder just limited. Are we expecting a Nintendo situation that if you don't preorder in the first 45 minutes you're out of luck for the next 6 to 12 months?
In Europe XBOX isn't as big as PlayStation. So I don't think it will sell out here very fast. However, I have some pre-order sites bookmarked.
@playstation_king Same with me since there's no real compelling reason to buy one at launch. The PS4 library is so robust I could spend a few more years playing it anyway.
Was planning to preorder an X on 22nd but after looking at the games that will be available I'm happy to wait at least another 6 months.
Got zero interest in a PS5.
