Swedish developer and publisher Thunderful announced third-person action-adventure game The Gunk as part of today's Xbox Games Showcase, which will be an Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Windows 10 PC exclusive.
Thunderful's Image & Form team is the creator of the popular SteamWorld franchise of games, and The Gunk sees the team jump into the world of full 3D - and this time the protagonists aren’t robots.
You can watch the new trailer above, and here's a bit of blurb about the game:
The Gunk stars a duo of gritty space haulers, struggling to make a buck as they chance upon an untouched planet brimming with life. They’ve come to gather alien plants and other valuable resources, and it looks like they’ve hit the jackpot... As they start uncovering dormant secrets of a shattered civilization, however, they must save the planet from the curse of a corruptive gunk parasite while desperately keeping from getting caught in a spiral of festering mistrust.
The Gunk is currently scheduled for a September 2021 release, and will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Looked intriguing, definitively will give it a shot. I mean, now that I have GamePass.. only reason not to give a game a shot is not having the time 😅
Very big get. I&F is an awesome studio.
Btw, I have a feeling this is going to be one of Microsoft next studio acquisitions.
@Tharsman
That's how it felt for me as well.
Thought this looked cool. It had some Journey to the Savage Planet vibes, and Image and Form tends to nail character, humor and great gameplay loops.
Looks pretty promising! I dig the setting and color palette.
Personally can't resist the "clean up malevolent corruption so natural life can bloom again" mechanic. As long as levels aren't procedurally generated, I'm in.
Man all morning I been seeing a double talk from people that are both: annoyed that this game will be an Xbox exclusive AND at the same time claiming it’s a boring looking game “we didn’t want to play anyways!”
The game doesn’t get me excited, but I hope it delivers for those who are. Gamepass so I’ll check it out either way
