One of the many games announced during the Xbox Games Showcase was Sega's online action-RPG, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. It'll be arriving on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in 2021.
According to the official Xbox Wire news post, this is the "latest entry" in the PSO2 universe. Although, as Eurogamer points out - it's also referred to as an "update" on Sega's YouTube channel.
At this point in time, it's unclear if it'll be an update to the existing game, or a standalone experience. Either way, it'll be completely revamped:
One of the goals for PSO2: NGS is to create the ultimate PSO2 in which the time-tested elements are kept intact, while the game design, gameplay, and graphics engine will be completely redesigned and reborn in all aspects. We are working very hard to offer players unparalleled character customization, limitless adventure, and the best action online RPG
One downside is that it appears to be limited to North America and Japan (sorry, Europe).
If it does end up being a standalone release rather than an update, we expect it to be a similar situation to Phantasy Star Online 2 - in other words, there shouldn't be any region locks in place, so you can still download it outside of these locations.
Is this an upcoming release you'll be keeping an eye on? Tell us down below.

Not sure if I will miss this game (got bored after two days with Tera) but it would be stupid if this game wouldn't be available for Europe.
This one looked soo cool!
Digging the gameplay.
The core gameplay of PSO2 is pretty fun but the game sure does need a revamp. It's terribly daunting for new players who might be expecting a classic 'team-kill-loot-repeat' gameplay loop.
The game throws so much information at you when you first start it is hard to know where to go next. I had to spend an hour reading a guide online before so I could make any sense of it.
(I could level the same complaint as Destiny 2. They made the game F2P but bewildering for new players. I've been playing the game for years and I still don't know what a Gambit is)
Lmao their Twitter said global releaseđŸ˜‚ Wasn't aware global was only two countries. I'm p1553d off.
two-finger smiley if I had one

It's not a problem for us, it's gonna be just like the actual PSO2 : put your console in US zone to go grab the game on US marketplace, then you can play it even if you returned your console zone to EUROPE.
And I'm actually pretty excited about this game, thought.
