It looks like Microsoft could be launching the Xbox Series X without any promotional in-person events. The company has confirmed that all of its internal and external events will be adopting a "digital-first" approach until July 2021, as indicated in a statement sent to MVP attendees (thanks VGC).
Initially, according to ZDNet, Microsoft had indicated that events in 2020 were to adopt a digital-only approach, stating back in March that the company would "continue to evaluate the event landscape." According to the report, the company's major public events for fiscal 2021 were being discussed internally at that time, with the thinking that cancelling early would allow more time to prepare for better virtual events.
There hasn't been any comment from the team at Xbox about the "digital-first" statement so far, which is bound to have an impact on the launch of Xbox Series X, and could also affect any potential appearance at the E3 2021 event next year. As for this year, Xbox has already announced it'll be replacing its E3 2020 show with a digital event.
What do you think of Microsoft's decision to hold "digital-first" events until mid-2021? Let us know in the comments.

Makes sense. As long as they do Nintendo direct-ish presentations instead of live events I am fine with this
Good. Welp, might as well spill the beans on the Series X. Cmon Phil, you know you want to 😉
As long as they put Major Nelson on ice, they can do whatever the hell they want.
@gingataisen
What’s wrong with Major Nelson?
@KelticDevil
Everything. 😂
