Classic Nintendo 64 game DOOM 64 was recently released on Xbox One to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary, and in an analysis by Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, it was mentioned that the game runs at a native 1440p on Xbox One S, making it the first game to achieve the feat.
According to Digital Foundry, the company behind the port (Nightdive Studios) discovered that the Xbox One GPU was barely being utilised at all with DOOM 64. As a result, the Xbox One S can display the game's visuals in native 1440p due to its HDMI 2.0-capable display controller (in 4K output mode), although owners of the original Xbox One are naturally restricted to 1080p and 60fps.
If you want to try DOOM 64 rendering at 1440p on your Xbox One S, it's available on the Microsoft Store for £3.99/$4.99. There are various other classic DOOM games on sale in the Xbox Spring Sale 2020 as well, including DOOM, DOOM II and DOOM 3.
Are you impressed that DOOM 64 runs at higher than 1080p on Xbox One S? Let us know in the comments.

The second link is wrong.
@BlueOcean Thanks!

On topic, I'll get it Xbox One X so it will be 4K. I've never played it before.
I got it on switch, didn't know it displayed in higher resolution on my Xbox One X otherwise I'd have probably got that version
I have always wondered why games that aren't technically demanding don't ever run above 1080P on Xbox One S, given the fact that it can output 4K video. I wondered if it was somehow blocked, but this confirms that it is not. Interesting.
@BionicDodo It could be because the original Xbox One doesn't support resolutions above HD but it doesn't explain why they wouldn't do it on Xbox One S except for parity.
I just played Doom 64 and it still looks great.
I own the original game on the N64, and I recently bought the remaster on the Switch, so triple-dipping is a bit too much, far as I'm concerned. And besides: this isn't exactly a game that's going to benefit massively from such a relatively minor resolution upgrade. It's already perfectly fine in 1080p.
