Got a mate who's just defected to the Xbox camp but he's having problems getting voice commands to work with his headset. They work for me when I've got my headset on and through Kinect obviously. He has a Kinect-less Xbox though... I've been telling him that he'd be able to do the voice commands without Kinect through the headset microphone but now I'm not so sure...
Thanks for clearing that up folks - silly me had just assumed so long as the xbox had a microphone it could do voice stuff.
That's a bit of a downer as I've been bigging up voice commands to him since I got imine and he's a bit miffed he can't have em now he's taken the plunge . Oh well you live and learn!

I am sure a 2nd hand Kinect for XB1 are relatively cheap in places like CEX (current price £35). I don't use mine for gaming at all but I still wouldn't be without one by choice...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
Cheers, will let him know this is his only option if he wants the complete experience.
To be honest, Kinect was sold as the only way to get the complete Xbox experience. I personally never use it for 'gaming' myself - mainly because of being disabled but I certainly prefer to have it than not.

To get the full effect of these features and in particular the Cortana feature you will need Kinect. Without kinect, you cannot use Cortana. If your friend (or anyone else) hasn't got a kinect sensor, this could well be the best reason to get one!

lol. Sorry, I was just trying to be funny in a trolly sort of way. But I have yet to see anything that justifies purchasing a kinect (for myself, that is. I'm sure other people enjoy it a lot). Everything it does I can already do with the push of a button, and I would rather just play with a controller rather than wave my arms around or yell out commands (when my family is asleep). Although I think Cortana is kind of cool...
also, I heard that the kinect watches you. This is probably grossly exaggerated, kind of like how xbox haters are all like "you always need to be online with xbone!" when in fact you don't have to be. But it's still something that weirds me out. Especially since I have my Xbone next to my dresser in my room.
So I sleep better at night knowing I don't have a kinect (and am about 100 dollars richer for it too). (^_^ )
Lol, fair enough! Wonder what Microsoft does with all the footage of me eating my dinner while a games on pause, or my son bouncing around like a crazy fool playing Disney Infinity....I'd like to see it!
In all seriousness, its so easy to take screenshots, record epic moments, join partys and so on, I don't think I'd be without my Kinect!
