I have an Xbox 360. I haven't used it in about 8 months. I started playing games on it again. However, I can't play any games on disc. The tray opens and I put the disc in but it says "Open Tray then Reading then goes back to Open Tray". I don't hear the disc spinning up as you normally would.
I have tried various 360 games and a DVD movie and nothing changes. I believe that it is hardware related. Prior to 8 months ago, I was able to play games such as Sniper Elite that was on disc without any problems. The Xbox sat around for 8 months.
Nothing has been modified or replaced so I am not sure what happened. I looked at the lens and internal parts of the disc player and it looks clean. I don't see any dust particles or anything that would cause any problems. I think the player went bad and I have to find out how to replace it.
@facecard Unless you know what your are doing I suggest calling Microsoft and either set up a repair or look for a local electronics repair shop. Maybe like a computer repair shop maybe and I know some phone repair shops will do repairs on a game system. You can even try maybe a local gaming store. In the US there is a place called UBreakiFix and they do console repair for a fee.
In the US, we don't have repair shops around corner. I can't speak about it in other states but here in NY in my neighborhood we don't have that many if any at all.
Most likely I will upgrade the console to an Xbox One at some point in the future.
