I haven't checked yet because I’m at work but supposedly there is a demo for Fatal Frame 2 Remake on Xbox. As soon as I get home I’ll be checking that out. I guess it also saves your progress so you can continue when you start the game. Has anybody tried it out yet?

@DeadSpace @Banjo- you should try out the new Fatal Frame 2 demo. It’s not very long, but it’s really good. The controls feel smooth and the graphics look great. It did seem a bit dark at first, but that’s probably because I jumped straight in without adjusting the settings. I finished the demo and it definitely left me wanting more. I’m really excited for the full game to drop!

@EvilSilentFrame are there any significant differences between the demo and the Wii remake other than the controls?

GOIDA!
I hear ZOV.

@AnVold I never got a chance to play the Wii version, but I’d say yes — this feels very modern. It honestly looks like it may have been rebuilt from the ground up. I did play the Xbox version quite a few times, though it’s been a long time since then. From what I remember, some of the dialogue seems a bit different (I’d have to go back and compare to be sure). The controls feel smooth, the graphics look great, and the few ghosts you encounter in the demo are genuinely creepy. So far I’m very pleasantly surprised. I originally thought they might do something similar to what they did with Part 4 — mostly taking the base game and polishing it up — but this feels much closer to a full remake.

@EvilSilentFrame @AnVold The Wii remake is the only version of 2 that I have played. I haven't played this demo, but the game is pre-ordered. Judging by the trailer, I'd say that it's a remake started from scratch, and I assume that they have included additional content from the expanded Wii version, such as newly accessible areas. The new remake looks awesome and it's nice to hear that controls are smoother. We will immerse ourselves in its world very soon now!

@Banjo- the demo isn’t long at all, and it’s been such a long time since I played the second game, but I do think there are some new areas. I couldn’t get into much because doors are locked but if my memory serves me right, there are some new areas. I also don’t remember the characters being able to duck in the original version and they can in here which brings in a few extra areas as well.

I didn’t get to do a whole lot of combat but it does seem to be improved. Maiden of the Black Water had the best combat and I think this remake now overtakes that. After playing the demo, I’m only more excited to play this. Team Ninja has done a nice job so far.

@EvilSilentFrame I confirm that you can't duck in the Wii version either. That sounds great and you are right, Maiden of Black Water has the best combat, it's so satisfying! In between, I love all those camera sounds while it's loading.

@Banjo – Glad to hear it’s getting good reviews. I saw some people online saying they canceled their preorders after playing the demo, but I actually thought it was pretty good. I wasn’t sure if that was just my nostalgia for the original talking or if the demo really was that solid. Either way, it’s nice to see the game is being received well.

Happy Crimson Butterfly Eve!

@EvilSilentFrame I didn't play the demo, but it's possible that it was a bit rough technically. The remasters of Maiden of Black Water and Mask of the Lunar Eclipse were improved by updates, so I expect the same or more, considering that this is a remake. I launched the game last night, just to check everything was fine and yes, I got the Digital Art Book & Digital Soundtrack, which is a standalone app and then there are three different packs installed in My games and apps: Pre-Order Bonus Set, Early Purchase Bonus Set and Deluxe Bonus Set. I'm very happy having supported this launch properly and if you or anyone else starts playing, share your thoughts!

@Banjo- have you started to play the game yet? I played a little the day it came out but got a chance to play a good amount today. Really enjoying it so far. Scarier than 4&5 which is good. The camera is pretty weak at the start but can start packing a punch quickly with the right upgrades. I love they incorporated some stealth and some new areas into the game. I think I’ll finish my first play through tomorrow. Looking forward to the second one to try and get more of the collectibles. Loving it so far!

@EvilSilentFrame Glad to hear that! I started the menus but I haven't played it yet. Can you share your camera settings? I loved 2 on Wii, it's one of my favourite games ever, so I'm sure I'll love this remake.

@Banjo – I just beat it and loved it. I think it’s a great remake and I’m really happy with it. I still love the original, and this won’t replace it for me, but I’m very pleased with how the remake turned out.

As for the camera, I highly suggest putting your upgrades into Focal Point first. That helped me a lot. Focal Point adds more dots to the camera lens, and when a ghost is within those dots it deals more damage. The more dots you have, the more damage you can do.

After that, it’s really up to you where you want to put your points. I mostly fought using the standard film, so I maxed out reload speed next because the camera felt pretty slow. Then I maxed max attack. I also upgraded film capacity since that applies to all film types.

Later I maxed range, upgraded special shot, and put one point into zoom. By the time I finished the game I still had 12 prayer beads left, and I just checked — they carry over into a second playthrough.

There are so many things you can upgrade that it can feel a little overwhelming at first, but starting with Focal Point really helps. After that you can build the camera however you like.

As for the game itself, I think it follows the story really well. I like that there are side quests that let you learn more about other characters. Some new areas open up on the map and in certain houses, which gives you more places to explore and uncover things.

There were a few times I wasn’t totally sure where to go next and had to explore a bit, but I actually enjoy figuring that stuff out.

I think you’re going to love this remake. They did a really great job with it.

@EvilSilentFrame That's a lot of interesting stuff for the first playthrough. I sent you a message on Xbox, in between.

@Banjo- when do you think you’re going to play the game? I wanted to get to my second play through but of course things come up. Life gets busy. So hopefully this weekend for me.
