@dmcc0 Yeah I also thought it didn't fit her style to kill people. Although the game did encourage you to do so towards the end of chapter 6. Perhaps it's just character development? The protagonist did say that she was tired of running away all the time and honestly, given how everyone is out looking to kill her, I think it is only fair that she's able to fight back. But yeah, the game definitely makes you question yourself and your morality as you progress through the story. There have been several instances of actions that felt wrong to do but were necessary in order to progress and the game does a good job of making you think about what kind of person you're becoming in order to survive.

That's the second thing that would make sense regarding the workbenches, i.e. you didn't have enough materials but you do now. I guess that would have to be it now that I think about it considering the game has 17 chapters and I've already found plenty of upgrade tools up until chapter 6.

@LtSarge I'd still say it's self defense though - your not just randomly taking people out that you could otherwise have sneaked past the guards are coming for you at that point when you're escaping the camp so you really have no choice - if you don't take them out you're all going to die.

@ralphdibny Hey, I appreciate the invite. It’s very random as to when I have time to play games so sometimes I go through a bunch in a month and sometimes I have like no time. So i won’t be very consistent! But happy to be included it theres no pressure

@LtSarge In reading about the achievements for the game I kind of understand the upgrades etc. The materials are in set positions including the upgrade tool. The stations are there in case you are saving for an upgrade (like increased pouch size for materials) so can decide not to upgrade at one station but then upgrade at the next. Also whilst for the collectibles you can go back to chapter select and pick them up; the materials you collect save and essentially “lock” when you complete a chapter. So if you miss an upgrade tool in chapter 4 and then go to the next chapter; replaying chapter 4 and picking up that tool wont matter because as soon as you reload chapter 5 or whatever, it will have reset to what you picked up on your initial run through. phew something like that anyway.

@dmcc0 Yeah I see what you mean. I think I just like taking down guards as swiftly as possible because that's how I tend to play stealth games, just like Dishonored, lol.

@K1LLEGAL Ah okay, makes sense. Appreciate the confirmation! I've actually been upgrading at every workbench whenever I have an upgrade tool but maybe I should save up for some of the other upgrades. I think upgrading the amount of resources you can carry seems like something worth investing in, especially considering how often I've not been able to pick up resources due to my bag being full, lol.

@Balta666 Welcome to the forums! Hope you'll enjoy it here!

@dmcc0 nice! Sounds good! Well except the Grey's anatomy marathon 😅. That's me being guilty of judging a book again as ive never actually watched it! I just started Mafia so I'm hoping to finish that up and then make a start on A Plague Tale

@K1LLEGAL added! Yeah that's cool, at the end of the day, real life is a thing and it often takes precedence over gaming (and a crowbar to get the controller out of my hands sometimes). Also there's months where people don't feel too hot about the majority vote so they may just duck out. I've done it before for both reasons so yeah, no obligations!

@Balta666 welcome! I was about to say we don't play that many horror games but thinking about it, there have been a few. I know October is a horror month so we can arbitrarily link it thematically to Halloween. I'm not huge on horror either tbh, I just like good gameplay (well, to my tastes anyway!) and/or a good story. Tear jerkers, emotionally epic moments or comedy bits are a plus for me in terms of story!

See ya!

@Balta666 oh really? Nice! We are actually playing it for the other game club over on Push Square. I played the original back when it came out on PC and it's probably cliché to even say it at this point but I got stuck on the racing mission and never progressed past it 😅. I'm hoping I have better luck this time even though I'm playing on classic difficulty!

See ya!

Gonna start it tonight, Prey is taking a little longer to finish than I anticipated (finally got the Meat Circus under my hat too!)

Just finished chapter 10 and I just have to say that I'm absolutely loving the companions in this game as well as what they bring to the table in terms of actions only they're able to perform. You only start out with two persons but your group will slowly expand over time and I think it's really nice. I genuinely thought that it would only be these two from beginning to end but that's not the case, which is good! Simply put, I think the characters in this game are great, they're all so likeable.

I've also noticed that the chapters can greatly vary in length. I just finished a chapter that took around an hour, while a previous chapter took like 10 minutes, lol. Considering how much I've been playing, it wouldn't surprise me if some of the later chapters are shorter than the previous ones. Not that I want them to be or anything, I'm enjoying this game so much that I don't want it to end just yet!

@LtSarge Yeah, Chapter 8 was so short I though I must've played a bit of it the night before without realising. I'm part way through Chapter 9 at the moment - didn't quite get to the end because my daughter was nagging me to play a round of Mario Golf with her. interesting that you mention the companions as I feel like chapter 9 has been the weakest so far and it's largely been without a companion so far. Hopefully they'll be back for the next.

@dmcc0 I personally thought chapter 9 was a nice breath of fresh air as you've been with companions throughout pretty much the entire game so far. So to be able to be on your own without having to worry about escorting people was very nice I thought.

Just finished A Plague Tale! Absolutely phenomenal experience and this is honestly the best game I've played on Game Club thus far. Ori and Alan Wake for example were great games but A Plague Tale just resonated more with me and I tend to value games like it more because of that. The story was captivating, the characters were memorable and likeable, and the gameplay always felt refreshing from one chapter to another as new mechanics were introduced. Not to mention that I really liked that the game takes place in the 14th century and I just love historical settings in video games! In this day and age where most games feel the same, this one was such a breath of fresh air due to all of the aforementioned things. It just goes to show that developers really need to be more creative with their games for them to stand out more and Asobo Studio successfully did that with A Plague Tale.

This series genuinely deserves more attention and I hope it gets it next year when the sequel comes out. Some may have forgotten this, but a sequel was announced at E3 and it's coming to Game Pass day one early next year, which is really cool! I'm definitely playing it as soon as it comes out because this series is simply wonderful.

@LtSarge Wow, didn't take you long to get through the second half. Looking forward to getting back to it; probably be finished by the end of the week I think. Just out of interest, how long did it take you to complete?

LtSarge

@dmcc0 Well I was just so hooked on the story, it was so good I couldn't stop playing, lol. I looked up my stats for the game and the playtime was off (5 hours, which is not accurate at all). But if I had to give a rough estimate, I think it took me about 12 or 13 hours to get through the game. It definitely felt longer than 10 hours since I was exploring a lot and taking my time with it.

I downloaded this yesterday so I'm hoping to get going with it over the weekend. My son is wanting to co op Crackdown 3 with me so I'll be on that too.

@LtSarge I finished it today too and my Xbox time also stopped at 5h37m which is completely wrong.

But wow what a fantastic game. I was hooked throughout (again - I don’t usually like stealthy games). And I kept wanting to come back to it. It’s a very good looking game (played on Series X) and yea the voice acting is really good in my opinion (if anyone was lacking maybe the main antagonist). Also that final chapter 👌. I got 900gs in the end but will go back and get the 6 curiosities I missed for the last achievement.

I guess if I was to complain about one thing it’s that the slingshot aiming was a bit finicky on moving targets; but then… it would be wouldn’t it? But that definitely cost me a couple of lives.

But seriously Asobo is a bit of a powerhouse these days. And I knew about the sequel but didn’t know it was a day 1 Gamepass game. I was thinking to myself “I loved this on Gamepass so will probably pay for the sequel at launch” but hey Gamepass works for me too! I’m intrigued as to how closely it will be tied to this game or if it will be far removed. I’ll have to look up if there was a teaser or trailer at all.

It’s definitely good to have a forum to discuss a game once you have completed it. I started doing instagram reviews just so I could write my thoughts down on the games I was completing since I have no one to discuss with IRL!
