I've held off on the new controller. It looks fine, but it doesn't offer anything new. It might break compatibility with certain 3rd party devices, might not fit my phone controller mount, and the only benefits I see are the share button and USB C port. It doesn't really downgrade, and compatibility will improve with time, but I see no reason to buy one. The Series X and S have an obvious appeal, and thank goodness MS didn't screw the software like Sony did for the sake of reinventing the wheel, but I'm a PC gamer now.
I didn't like the cross pad on the 360.controller and that alone ruined the controller for me. The OG Xbox controller was ok even the Duke but I liked the redesign more. I do rather like the Xbox One controller as that one just feels like the 360 should have along with a correct cross pad. Haven't tried the Series X yet since I don't have the system but I will get at least one and probably just use my Xbox One controllers on the Series X unless the Series X Controllers blow me outta the water.

Xbox 360 controller would be perfect but its dpad is terrible imo. I use my Xbox One controller with Series X now. I don't know why, but my wireless headset don't like that new controller. But it works perfectly with the old one (And it is wireless, it does not even connect to the controller. But I read that some other people have similar issues).
The Series S/X controller is an updated Xbox One controller - basically the 4th version (3rd Revision) after adding the 3.5mm headphone jack (1st revision), then Bluetooth connectivity (2nd revision - introduced with the XB1S) and now the Share button, D-Pad and USB-C (introduced with the Series S/X). Its still technically part of the same 'generation' rather than a 'new' controller and works with both generations and PC too.
The Elite is still my favourite controller and to be honest, I haven't bothered taking my Series X controller out of the packaging. The 'new' controller is just the the latest revision of the Xbox controller introduced with the Xbox One and not a 'Series' Controller. It also means that if you want to buy a new controller and haven't yet upgraded, that is the Xbox controller and the revisions have taken some cues from the Elite.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Agreed, Only ever use the Elite for Xbox One and for Series X. Love that controller, just not the price.
I don't think one size can fit all perfectly. Nintendo made DS XLs, it would be good to see more variety. I'm sure it would risk being more expensive due to economies of scale, and most controllers fit people good enough for them to be happy, but not all hands are the same size.
