Topic: Installation kept stopping and controller problem

When I install games on my Xbox One S the installation kept stopping every 10 seconds and I have to keep hitting resume to get it to continue. I tried all the recommended methods such as clearing the cache, turning off the console, unplugging the power cord, then reconnect and restart, still doesn’t fix the problem. Also my Xbox One controller only works when plugged to console via charging cord and it doesn’t turn on at all if I disconnect it.

Anyone else having these problems and couldn’t resolve through the troubleshooting recommendations? What’s causing the installation to keep stopping and how do I force it to not stop? My PS4 never have these problems. The games always install without ever stopping. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Might be a dead Wi-Fi board. The Wi-Fi board also connects wireless controllers. I'm currently having the same issues with game downloads stopping, though I don't have to hit resume, it just stalls randomly all the time. My controller connects fine but if I disconnect the wire that strengthens the antenna signal for the Wi-Fi board I have to resync my controller every time I boot. You can at least press the sync button instead of plugging it in, unless that isn't working for some reason.

You can buy Wi-Fi boards on eBay, make sure you get the one for the Xbox One S, not the Xbox One original or Xbox One X. The Xbox One X one looks very different but the original's board is similar. The S model has 3 screws, the original has 2. You'll also need the right screwdrivers and iFixit spudger to open your console. iFixit guide

I should emphasize there is no guarantee it is the board, it probably is but unless you have a 2nd Xbox One S you want to take apart you can't test that. I just got a Wi-Fi board on eBay that didn't work so I'm returning it. It may be the riser cable on the original Xbox One but I fiddled with it when it was on to no avail so I suspect the replacement board is also bad. That is another risk, that the replacement board you get on eBay doesn't work. I'm no professional or even amateur, just done a few things like replacing dead drives and dry thermal paste, so I'm not the best person to ask.
Edit: iFixit sells the board themselves, I probably should have bought from them. I already ordered another board from a different eBay seller but learn from me and buy from iFixit if you go the repair route, I've had good luck with them on phone parts and assume they actually test the products they sell for more than 30 seconds.

@Vincent294
Thanks for your advice Vincent. It turns out I may have a corrupted external hard drive. I ended up having the game installed to the console and the process went flawlessly.

@Don That makes sense. Should be easier to fix than anything internal. Cool.
