Talking Point: What Do You Think Of Monster Hunter Rise So Far?

9/10 from me, but I've played it on Switch. Ran it on Xbox to check out visual upgrades, but I won't be starting from scratch (would be great if there was a save transfer feature). Anyway, my favorite MH game.

@Cikajovazmaj 100% agreed. I only use the xbox version to help some none Switch players getting started. But won’t start all over again.

Not sure I get the hype. To me it feels slow, clunky and awkward.

Not Invested enough in the franchise to keep fighting all that to find the fun.

I was overwhelmed with all the systems and different buttons at the beginning. But as I got used to them they became easier and more understandable. I am enjoying it.

One of my best gaming memories is from MHW, when I finished the story solo: it felt really great to kill the final boss all by myself - wife and kid sleeping, I was all alone, way past the reasonable bedtime.
Now, I've already spent some 10ish hours with Rise, and I'm feeling it will be just as epic!

Have 300+ hours on Switch and i now have around 20 hours on PS5. The move 4K/60fps is game changing.

I’ve put in 100+ hours with the Switch version, and I’m looking forward to checking out the game on the Series X. I booted the game up this morning before I left for work, and I forgot how monotonous the opening hours are. I literally just kept skipping all the dialogue from the tutorial(s). I’m ready to get to the meaty parts of the game. It really is a fantastic title—easily a 9/10 from me.

It is superb, been playing it non stop. The quality of life gameplay improvements over MH:World are great. It would be very hard to go back.

Looking forward to seeing the Sun break expansion.

I tried the game for about 45 minutes... very slow and hard to control. Swinging the weapon was slow and took forever. No clue on what all the "items" I picked up were.

Tried it a little and the tutorials were neverending.
Got to the part where you kill a bunch of monsters and the moves were terrible.
I know. I didn't even get to play the game proper. Just saying my first impressions. I'm sure the game is cool once you get into it, but it was taking forever.

I’m enjoying my time with it. It’s new for me; but the buddy’s are too cute >.< it is more methodical compared to something like Godeater.

Felt like a switch game launch title from 2017. Graphics and all. There's a reason I don't own a Switch. It can't even out do an Xbox 360 from 2005. The Switch is literally on par with perhaps an original Xbox from 2002.

Counter-point from a MH semi-verteran here: Played MH3 on WiiU, MH4, MHG on 3DS, and MHU on 3ds AND Switch and MHW on PS4 (phew). I'm diving back in after playing on Switch, and this is the first in the series I lost interest in. I think it's these factors:
#1 QoL improvement overdone resulting in a lot of rinse/repeat gameplay: Monster immediately on the map - Run to it, or the other monster to silkbind it, monster vs monster, slam it into a wall, whittle down health. Shampoo, condition
#2 I feel Capcom followed the dollar and gave less meaningful special event quests. Before MHRise: Samus Aran armor/gun, Link Armor, shield, bow, Grappler Baki skins, Fairy Tale weapons, etc etc. Well aware some of those are Nintendo IP, but now you have a handful, and some of the rewards are... stickers?

In summary a step back in value in favour of a larger audience.

Yeah played a bit, and it was slow and clunky. Loved the vibe but hated the actual gameplay!

Great so far! I have to say that MH Rise is a master class in menu design & customization options. I used to use an app to find items / monsters in MH Ultimate and the accessibility to a lot of the menus is really slick. There's plenty to read but all of the options are there for you all of the time until you get to grips with the system and for seasoned players, it lets you get even more in depth. And the game looks gorgeous! Boosted the graphics settings to the max and calibrated my LG OLED, looks fantastic. Plus there were already some 40+ quests released on day one that are on PC and Switch so got content for days. Highly recommend getting into this one!

@BBB there are combos that speed up your attacks, use of wire bugs / your palamute & general levelling up. Some weapons have slower play styles which requires some expirementation. I get the sentiment as that how I felt back on 3DS but after a few hunts, I was zooming around in battle.

@NarutosBiggestFan kill a few monsters & build new gear that hits harder and faster. Base character movements are slow, I'd recommend just focusing on 2 weapons at the start & getting down the combos on the faster one you prefer. It's a Capcom game so button combos are a thing like in Street Fighter and some of their other franchises. It'll start to click after a couple of hours & the items you pick up will show in your crafting session. You'll get into crafting traps, health potions, buffs, etc once you unlock bigger monsters. It'll take a little bit of time (maybe 3-5 hours) for you to get your build in order, unlock cooler monsters and get your gameplay style down (especially if it's your first). It'll all just click for you at some point. Not everyone will like the game but there's a reason this is one of Capcom's top selling franchises of all time in Japan and now the west. It does things differently & it does those things well, hard to just pick up and play for the casual gamer for sure. Another tip, don't read all the menus! They will pop up as you play through the game

I own Rise/Sunbreak twice already (on Switch and PC). And I'm now playing through Rise for a THIRD time on GamePass. I must say, it looks gorgeous on my Xbox Series X, and plays so smooth. I am having a blast all over again (but then again, I've been a MH fan since Tri on the Wii, and never looked back). Sad thing is, though...I'm still playing Bow main..again. I just love how good it feels in Rise; I don't really want to play using anything else until I get it maxed out. Then I'll probably move to using Hammer for a while (second favorite weapon). Rise is such a great game, and Sunbreak only makes it just THAT much better. Can't wait for the expansion to come to GamePass too, and with free updates coming for a while to go, this game is only getting better and better. Truly the very best MH has ever been for me!
