Talking Point: Are You Happy With The New Updates Coming To Xbox Consoles?

We've not had enough time to properly judge how boss Asha Sharma is going to get on in her new role as Head of Xbox, but one thing we're loving so far is the team's renewed focus on console, and that's starting to manifest itself with new updates arriving for Series X|S users.

Indeed, for the first time in what feels like ages, we're starting to see meaningful new features being built for console players, beginning with Xbox Insiders before rolling out to more users. This started with news of a surprise dashboard update featuring new Quick Resume features not long ago, followed up by the recent unveiling of an Xbox Achievement overhaul earlier this week. Better yet, the team is on the lookout for more suggestions as well!

Indeed, this is seemingly just the start. Not only has the Xbox boss taken to social media to say that a "dedicated feedback team" has been put together to focus on what further updates fans want, but we also know that said feedback is being collected from fans online. If you've got something you really want to see added, it might be worth heading over there and putting the suggestion forward to Team Xbox.

It's nice to finally get console updates again after the last one was like 14 months ago. Why did it take so long to do things for console owners though?
It really makes Phil and Sarah look bad and even more so like liars because they kept saying how important console is, but spent no resources on consoles!

I absolutely love that the achievement system is finally being paid attention to by those with the power to actually implement changes, but the problem is nothing of consequence has been done with it yet. Poll the achievement hunters. We’re the only people who actually care about achievements anyway, so ask the right questions and collect the feedback. Get the data. Take necessary steps and integrate changes.

There is zero legitimate reason why we cannot permanently remove a game from our acheivement lists, no matter how complete the gamerscore is for it. It’s an open secret that achievement data is tracked for analytics purposes; it shows engagement rates, falloff, completion rates etc. Microsoft will still acquire all that data regardless of whether we can Thanos snap the game out of our achievement lists or not.

I’m not the only achievement hunter who makes purchases based off whether a developer curated a good list or if they made it a tedious overly difficult chore, or whether there’s a possible threat of a server shutdown which would render full gamerscore completion impossible. Enabling the end user to have the option to simply wipe the incomplete game away solves all of the above. Same goes for trophies over on the PlayStation side of things. This is a glaring blindspot for both major platform holders.
