What Games Are You Playing This Weekend - Issue Eight

We're finally back to some serious gaming
After a lengthy and unexpected sabbatical, WGAYPTW is back in full force!
If you're just joining us, this is a biweekly feature where we not only share our jealousy-inducing gaming plans with you, but we expect you to do the same for us. Modern or retro, Xbox or Nintendo, it doesn't matter — this is about games of any kind! Once you've digested all of the lovely words that we've prepared, head on down to the comments below and brag about the virtual excitement you're getting into this weekend.
So let's get this thing started, shall we?
Guacamelee! — This has been queued on my download list for far, FAR too long. Finally got round to downloading it and have played for an hour or so - good fun. There are a few glitches here and there that shouldn't be rearing their heads, but nothing that destroys the gameplay. I can't wait to get further into it.
Final Fantasy VII — Whilst going in to download Guacamelee!, this was winking at me from the PlayStation Store. After resisting for far too many months, I finally took the plunge and am looking forward to getting back to grips with Cloud and co.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII — I've not spent a great deal of time with this one yet, but I'm intrigued. Awful overacting aside, the storyline seems quite interesting and though I'm not a massive fan of the combat system, it might well grow on me.
This weekend I plan to slaughter the last of the invading bugs in Earth Defense Force 2025 so I can get a review live early next week. Here's a preview: it's loads of fun in cooperative modes. I'll also be going after the remaining friend requests in South Park: The Stick of Truth before I retire it to the shelf. It's easily my 2nd favorite game of 2014 at this point — behind DKC: Tropical Freeze, of course.
Outside of that I have review duties for Nintendo Life that I need to tend to. If I can clear those from the schedule soon enough, I'd love to revisit Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story before Yoshi's New Island is released next week. My retro game room has been uninhabited in recent weeks and I feel like that needs to change.
I just picked up my copy of South Park: The Stick of Truth which means I'm going to be sucked into the quiet, mountain town full of foul-mouthed kids, anal-probing aliens, and ManBearPig. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Honestly, the attention to detail in the game is astonishing. Finally, us fans have some geographic sense of the town, so exploring every nook and cranny and spotting all of these nods to the show puts a huge smile on my face.
I'm also playing The LEGO Movie Videogame for review for PureXbox. I absolutely adored the movie but the game, unfortunately, just feels like every other LEGO game before it. It's still a fun game, and it's brewing with all the usual meaty content LEGO games are known for. On my iPhone, I just can't seem to get enough of Threes!, a unique and addictive card puzzler that my friends and I have been competing against for the past month. I don't usually play games on my iPhone, but this one instantly caught my attention and hasn't let up since. Definitely check it out!
I've been spoiled with lots of games that fit my style over the last few weeks, so I have a nice mix of things to play. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 has been my go-to for action adventure. I do get dragged away from solo gaming by my siblings so Disney Infinity also finds its way into my console as well. Bravely Default has been the most fun I've had on the 3ds in a very long time, bringing back some of the RPG mechanics I love. Being a mobile title only makes it better because I can level my jobs on the go. When I feel brave and the 3DS is charging I've also been trying to climb the ranks in League of Legends.
This weekend I will continue to indulge my obsession with Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. I've logged about 12 hours so far and I find myself more absorbed every day with 'I only need 5000 more coins for one of the mega sticker packs!' being an acceptable reason to delay going to bed for 'just one more round' and turning up for work bleary eyed the next morning. I'll also be logging some time on Xbox Fitness I guess, but really only to offset the hours of sitting on PvZ shouting at peashooters.
I spent the last 3 weeks moving and indulged in zero gaming, so this weekend begins an onslaught of catching up. First, for Saturday, will be a relaxing starter of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare to nimble and warm up the fingers. Then I'll spend the rest of the night lost in the world of Rust, in an attempt to get an Air Drop. Sunday evening I'll get my wife to sit down with me to play Outlast and watch her reach her limit of terror. When she's had enough, I'll finish the weekend off with the multiplayer main events of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Battlefield 4.
And that brings us to the part where you do the chatting. Will you be searching for the elusive ManBearPig in South Park: The Stick of Truth, or possibly digging into the online modes in Plants vs. Zombies? Maybe it's something else entirely? Either way, get to the comments and tell us all about it!
