Rare Keeps Focus On Kinect for Next Title

Posted by Ken Barnes

But in which generation?

Kinect Sports developer Rare is keeping a firm eye on Kinect, if a new job listing spotted by OXM is to be believed.

The company is hiring a principle network services engineer, noting that they are "continuing to push the boundaries of the Kinect hardware with our exciting new project." In addition to this, they make mention of a "never-been-done-before Rare project" that requires a gameplay engineer. So a new Kinect Sports or Killer Instinct (aww!) are probably not what they're talking about.

The knockout blow comes when the job listings mention next generation hardware in a roundabout way:- “During prototyping you will occasionally be working with extremely early prototype hardware co-developed with teams located off-site. You will need to showcase possibilities to inspire our designers, quickly iterating even when the underlying platform may be unstable or rapidly changing.”

So, are Rare still working on Kinect Sports 3, or has development been halted in preperation for the next-generation of Kinect - rumoured to be bundled at launch with the next Xbox? What could be next on the agenda? Would it be too much to hope for a Conker reboot with motion controls? How about a version of GoldenEye that has you diving behind your sofa for cover? Are we asking too many questions?

We'll bring you every morsel of information just as soon as we find it.
