Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 20-21)

I started Roboquest yesterday on Game Pass. Ended up playing for about 3 hours and I really like it. It's like if Doom 2016 and Borderlands had a baby but Borderlands isn't the real father because Doom 2016 was actually having an affair with Immortal Redneck.

Final Fantasy 16 Still mainly playing this amazing game. I havent been this hooked on a FF game since the original FF 7! Close to the end of the story, but dragging it on a bit by doing the not so great side missions etc. Might as well go for the platinum trophy down the line, just cause its such a good game imo.

TLOU 2​ - got the upgrade and tried it out just to see how it plays and it feels and looks really great, but it then already did that. Still, perfect excuse to play it again, but not yet. Will play the part 1 remake first 🙂

Vertigo 2 VR havent really played it since Im all in on FF 16 but I tried it for maybe half an hour and it seems really fun so I'll go all in on this next.

Im a little captivated by 'under the waves' and I hope to play much more this weekend.
Right now I have the urge to plug in my fighting stick and play the Raystorm collection, see if I have any reflexes left!

I’m replaying FF16 and doing the DLC so hopefully finish that. Probably also see what Palworld is all about too

I have started playing Skyrim again. I have the special addition with all the dlc's etc, which I have never actually played, so I can see Skyrim taking over my gaming life for the next few weeks at least.

I got all the things I needed to do out of the way this morning, so this afternoon I’m going to try Resident Evil 2 on Xbox. I also did the ten-quid-upgrade thing with Last of Us 2 on PlayStation, so I might have a look at the new mode on that, although I don’t fancy another story play-through just yet. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

This weekend I'm probably finally gonna start playing COD: Black Ops Cold War on Xbox in addition to continuing my journey in Trails of Cold Steel III on the Switch.

I might also give Palworld a second try but I'm not too sure about that.
While the general concept is great, the game suffers(in my opinion) from being a survival game at its core.

After getting frustrated with Elex II (I can't deal with the broken combat and terrible progression anymore!!), I decided to buy Life is Strange: True Colors and I can't wait to romance some characters lol. Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!

The Last of Us Part 2 remaster and some Far Cry 6 on PS5 and on Xbox I'm going to try Palworld and maybe finally finish Starfield or give Diablo 4 another chance.

Actually I have nothing this weekend. I might play some Halo if I have the time.

Finished Disco Elysium this morning. I liked it but I don't love it (also very stingy with achievements). Now it is time to start Prince of Persia!

Honestly, I don't know.

AEW was disapointing, not bad but I could just play No Mercy.
I finished all the Phantom Liberty content and doing Panem's missions without romance seems to have stalled me out.
Frostpunk... I was doing well until everyone died.
My co-op buddies are out of town, and the only other game I was playing is House Flipper but I'm using that for achievements for the rewards.

I'm hoping the kids decide to nap so I can jump into the Quest 3 updated of Walking Dead.

Hooked and I hate Pokemon but this seems to have a few more layers to it. Good fun and a chill out game.

I'm playing Sea of Stars but am getting frustrated in a battle with these ants that keep summoning more ants... pretty soon I'm surrounded by like 8 of them. Might switch over to Resident Evil Village in my backlog

I have tried the get into the Resident Evil franchise many times but it just never clicked and unfortunately the RE2 remake didn't change my opinion. It's just dull to me with a weak story that doesn't pull me along at all.

So it's back to Baldurs Gate 3 for me for the most part this weekend.

Real Soccer 2013 (Windows Phone) - Still enjoying this as well.

Angry Birds Rio (Windows Phone) - In the later parts of the game now.

I've finished Jusant this morning, my 4th short game of the new year. I think I will get into something a bit longer. Deciding between Dead Island 2, Disco Elysium, Sea of Stars, and Shadowrun Returns.

Playing and enjoying Prince of Persia The lost crown. Decided to get it on XSX over PS5 for quick resume feature, which is very handy in a game like this. Still playing EA Sports WRC, and it looks like with this weeks patch Codies have finally fixed the screen tearing. On PS5 I’m playing through Horizon Forbidden West again, which I’m thoroughly enjoying.

This weekend I’m playing Dead Space Remake. I just finished my first playthrough in its entirety on my PlayStation Portal. I completed all side quests, and did a Plasma Cutter only run which was fantastic.

Shockingly, I managed to collect every text/audio log, weapon upgrades and schematics, all without a guide. So now, I’m making my way through NG+, getting more combat oriented trophies, and preparing myself for Impossible mode to obtain the platinum trophy.

I have a lot to say about this game. Personally, I believe it’s the zenith of survival horror games. One thing I absolutely love about Dead Space — the original and remake — is that the game immerses you in its environment in clever ways.

One way is its lack of HUD. There are no items or distractions on the corners of the screen. If you’re concerned as to where you are or need to go, you will never get lost because it’s accessible without using a map. The answers are always in front of you if you are willing to search your surroundings. However, if you do want to be precise you can open a menu to get a direct location, but even then it’s keeping you in its world and not taking you out of the experience.

Another way is the environmental story telling. It’s almost BioShock-esqe, with its posters and billboards sprawled out across the walls everywhere. As you progress you’ll learn more about why you and others are here. And as you gain more knowledge, you’ll start understanding the graffiti that’s written on the walls and floors — and seeing crew members of the USG Ishimura dead, with candles around them or something grotesque.

Thirdly, the game draws you in by having unique weapons. On the ship is essentially miners and engineers, amongst other professions, and the weapons you acquire are tailored to these varying vocations abroad. And with the game being set in 2508, the guns seem futuristic while also staying grounded to reality. You won’t find your standard assault rifles or handguns.

The final thing I want to discuss is how brilliant its pacing is. The game provides a lot of tools and upgrades at your disposal, and disperses them in such a way that always makes you feel like you’re progressing all the while providing a challenge. There’s a feeling of being at a disadvantage due to tight corridors, the sound design that plays on your fears such as hearing sounds in the vents or screaming from somewhere you can’t physically see. But you’re always equipped to handle it, without feeling stuck in the next main area.

There is a ton more I could mention, such as the Metroidvania-like level design, with the world being interconnected by the tram system and various doors and loot littered throughout, that can only be accessed when you obtain certain items. I didn’t even bring up the story itself, which is quite good. Overall, I’ll end this diatribe by saying: if you’re a fan of survival horror then go play this game — it is a masterpiece.

I finished Ghost Trick last night and I hate to say it, the first 25% was fun, then it just got old. The story was good, but I just couldn't engage anymore after 7-8 hrs. Some sections were down right frustrating unfortunately. Please hold your pitchforks 🫠.

Now, I'm finally able to fully focus on the gem they call Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown on switch.

On xbox, another banger in Robocop Rogue City.

I'm already fully enthralled in both.

Still working my way through Alan Wake 2, I’m determined to 100% it so taking my time to explore every nuck and cranny.

@Kaloudz I absolute love resident evil and a franchise but I still haven’t completed 2 remake yet. With Tyrant chasing you around the police station my nerves just can’t handle it

I finished the Halo infinite campaign last weekend and let the XBox game pass picker decide my next game, which is....

HiFi Rush.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to play this game. It's so much fun to play and the music they've used is exactly what I wanted it to be. Still quite early in the game I think (R&D) and loving every minute of it.

Let's hope the game pass picker pulls out another gem for me when I next use it!

Almost finished with Life Is Strange: True Colors, so that will be my main focus this weekend. However, I do plan on checking out Palworld on Game Pass a bit as well - provided there's any space remaining on the servers for me...

I am playing the the Resident Evil 2 Remake for the first time and I must admit I found the game a bit of a struggle at first not much ammo and even the vanilla zombies were hard to beat.
Completed the game last week and I am now playing through the game with Claire.

Continuing Sea of Stars, just got the ship. Don't know how far through I am but I'm in no rush to finish it. I particularly find the the mini game wheels very addictive.

I'll also be starting out in MW3 ranked play and jumping back in to Two Point Campus since I picked up all the DLC in the last sale.

Just finished Yakuza 4, started 5 just now. Fun games. Not gonna try and 100% them though.

I've signed U+ on the Series X last week, so I finished today Avatar and will move on to Prince of Persia tomorrow. On the playlist, I pretend to prepare for FF VII Rebirth on the PS5 by playing FF VII Remake again, then a 1st play of Crisis Core FF VII Reunion.

Back to Starfield which I’ve enjoyed last few day. Just dusted off telltale michonne walking dead easy 1000g but was enjoyable.. Also have apex legends for multiplayer fix

I finished Axiom Verge 2 last night. Good game with a lot of cool stuff going on mechanically, but even so, I didn't like it quite as much as the first one. I started Close to the Sun earlier today and am about halfway through it now. It's... okay.

Will be starting Turnip Boy and Those who remain … do a little back and forth…

Alrighty another week and another WAYP. Here we go ehehehe. This weekends been kinda decent I guess. Some Octopath 2 and some Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising as well as some Rain Code. I mean that was my pick for this weekends poll. It’s finally clicking and I hope I’m not just saying that because I’m on Chapter 4 of 6 I’m thinking. My copy of Another Code has come in so I’m happy as heck about that. Also got the Noah and Mio amiibo alongside some ESHOP money so I think I’m gonna get Under Night In Birth 2 Sys: Celes and probably the Rain Code DLC. Big week this week tho we got Tekken 8 and Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth at the end of the week two games I’m super hyped for. Then the good times just keep rolling really ehehe. Think I’m gonna try fitting in a play through of FFVII Remake Intergrade before Rebirth. Specifically the Intermission with Yuffie. Otherwise while I wait for the big releases at the end of the week it’s business as usual. Some Assassins Creed, some Octopath maybe and even some Golden Sun I really liked what I played. Anime of the week gotta go to the new stand outs of winter like Mashle, Sign Of Affection, Witch and the Beast, Solo Leveling and a lot more. All excellent so far. As for podcasts I’m also in GOTY collection mode still so ya know outside of Castle Superbeast and Big Think Dimension it’s collection duty for stuff like Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Minnmax, Nextlander, Remap Radio and of course Windbreaker and Firelink from the great guys of Second Wind. Of course we gotta give a big lovely shoutout to my friend again at twitch.tv/akibread. With these new releases coming I think I’m finally feeling those early January blues going away. The Last of Us 2 remastered! The new rogue like horde mode is excellent. Not started the story yet. Not finished it since release so lookin forward to that. The combat in The Last of Us 2 is incredible! So brutal an gory! One of the best games of last gen with incredible story an gameplay. The story is so dark!! It’s also one of the best looking games of last gen an now i can play a PS5 version!! 😆😆
