Bethesda Delays Fallout 4's Xbox Series X|S Upgrade Into 2024

It's great just to hear some news on this update. A lot us just wanted to know it hadn't been forgotten.

Taught as much when there was no news on it hopefully it's out by February at least

Bit of a bummer this.
So will this be a free upgrade for existing owners(I have the GOTY edition) or will they go the Sony route an charge for it 🤔?

Wonder if this will break the console mods.

Why bother all resources on new games please.
Developers state it takes a long time to make a new game nowadays.
Well stop Fanny about with upgrades and remakes and put all resources on new games and that might help ya.
Or Bethesda put the resources in making Starfield better.

Let me guess.. The delay will just happen to line up with the launch of the live action Amazon series.

The upgrades with the creation club content will cost about $20, but the resolution and framerate will hit everyone free.

Wow this is bogus, they should have met their commitment to release the update this year.

Will this next-gen update be for Series X|S only or will it be coming to PS5 as well?

@OldGamer999 Chances are, its a 'small' group of devs that are working on this whilst others are working on Starfield stuff, others maybe working on ES6, whilst another group maybe working on F76 and/or ESO content.

Certain parts of 'Game' development can't start until others have 'finished' their part. You can't have voice Actors in until scripts are written for example. Maybe can't create cut-scenes until the voice work and/or storyboard artist has finished their work - Character design or Environmental artists maybe can't start until they have concept art or been to visit the 'area' the Game is set in, taken photo's etc...

Point is, if they aren't working on the 'next' game yet, it maybe due to the fact that the 'new' game isn't far enough along to require them to 'work' on it with their Skill set. Its better to keep them employed and working on 'older' stuff until they maybe required to work on the newer stuff....

@The_Pixel_King I would imagine - although don't quote me on this, that it would be an update for PS5 too as that specific Fallout Game was and still remains on Playstation and MS did say they would continue to support ALL games that are on Other Platforms, not pull them.

I could see Fallout 5 being Exclusive because these games are NOT 'sequels' as such but Self contained Single Player games. You have to create your character and its not tied to the previous game - other than by 'lore' - there are 'no' fans of Fallout 5, its setting or its story, but there are Fans of Fallout 4 on PS hardware.

But Games like Fallout 4, Skyrim, F76, ESO etc were released on Playstation and so I do expect that MS will continue to Support these - unless Sony themselves make that 'difficult' by not sending SDK's or maybe demanding it's a 'separate' PS5 release with its own SKU.

Time will tell of course, but I would be surprised if its just 'Xbox'. That doesn't mean it won't be Exclusive but I think the PR would be 'better' if they did and it also keeps with their 'commitment' to keep those games supported on Playstation for the Fans of those games.

Gaming websites mentioned all current gen consoles for the upgrade. The PS5 will be getting too.

@Sol4ris If it's anything like the Skryim anniversary edition. The Next Gen upgrade and some bits from the creation store will be free for existing owners, then there will be a paid upgrade that'll include ALL the creation club content.

Even after all these years, haven't finished yet, but it has the Skyrim syndrome. RPG dumbed down to casual level.
That sells, but it's not my cup of tea, so I'm not interested.

Maybe Baldur's Gate 3' success serves to make Bethesda aware that they can make RPGs after all.

@Lup yes, definitely some lessons to be learned regarding BG3 being GOTY and Starfield not making many top 10 lists.
But there are so many variations of a RPG that some action RPGs I don’t think are RPG at all….

I keep wanting to jump into 76. Every time I do something pulls me away from it and what not. I should just fully commit to it.

This game runs supreme on the Stream Deck, seriously pretty fun.
It will be interesting to see what the Deck can handle

Not sure how division of labor and duties work at their studio but if focus on this takes away from Starfield, i think keeping attention fully on Starfield is best. Updates, fixes, quality of life improvements, and of course badass DLC that’s typical for Bethesda rpg’s.

@AlwaysPlaying game of the year means nothing though it's the video game equivalent of the ballon d'or.

Let's see statistics of how many people playing BG3 have actually played divinity, pillars of eternity, xcom or any isometric turn based game really i don't think many have, everyone and their grandmother is playing BG3 because of word of mouth which has really been the deciding factor on if a game gets awards, nobody wants to be the outlier watching the bandwagon.

They need more time to force a new paid mods service into the game like they did with Skyrim and they want it to coincide with the delayed TV show ....

The Japanese Xbox and PlayStation have been left for years with their mod stores destroyed.
Skyrim fixed this with an anniversary update that was released a year after its release in the US.
I hope they fix Fallout 4 too.
