I've always been a massive fan of sports games, particularly when it comes to football (soccer) and hockey titles, but hockey in particular has really dried up in terms of headline-worthy releases outside of the EA Sports NHL series.

However, I've been playing a hockey game over the past year on my ROG Xbox Ally X via Steam called Tape to Tape, and I just happened to discover that it's offically targeting an Xbox release this month alongside its 1.0 launch.

The game is a wacky roguelite where you have to acquire players for your team, improve their skills and take advantage of all sorts of crazy abilities. Its campaign is the main focus here, which is actually in the process of being revamped for the 1.0 release, and you can play it either single-player or with a friend.

Here's a look at how Tape to Tape has evolved over the years:

Ultimately, you're looking at a mix of everything from EA Sports NHL to NHL 2K, Super Blood Hockey, NHL Hitz and everything in-between with this one. It's not a realistic game at all, but it certainly still plays a fun game of hockey.

As mentioned, Tape to Tape is officially targeting an Xbox release in October 2026, but we don't have an exact date as things stand. Pricing also remains up in the air, but expect it to land somewhere around $20-25 at launch.

We'll leave you with a few more details below:

Tape to Tape is a roguelite hockey game where every choice matters on your journey to build the best hockey team. Choose your path, hire unique players, discover synergies between them, pick unique abilities, bribe the referees or visit the Blademaster on your way to restore hockey's former glory.
