To get you up to speed, E-Day's Multiplayer Beta is split across two weekends. The first is reserved for players who have either pre-ordered the game or possess an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership. The following weekend then opens the curb-stomping to everyone, with a free Open Beta free to all players.
What upset players was The Coalition's decision to limit the first, 'paid' Early Access weekend to Horde Siege, the new 12-player co-op survival mode, whilst saving Versus PvP for the second, free Beta weekend alongside the existing PvE offering.
Well, it looks like having a whinge on social media is enough to move the needle as Versus PvP has now been added to the first Early Access session.
Funnily enough, observant players managed to get even earlier access to Gears of War: E-Day's Versus mode last night. The official Gears Community account on X/Twitter announced a short server test ahead of the Early Access Beta - likely a necessary step after The Coalition was encouraged to bring Versus online a smidge sooner than originally anticipated.
"We're currently conducting a short server test in preparation for this weekend. If you have the Open Beta downloaded, feel free to jump in and help us test before the servers go offline."
During the first preview wave, we ran into a severe case of high ping and server lag, likely because the online infrastructure needed a little more time in the oven. We wouldn't be surprised if some of that carries over when the Early Access Multiplayer Beta kicks off tomorrow. Here's hoping regional matchmaking is locked in, because If not I fear for Gears' Community Manager. Remember folks, be kind to your CM!
