One of the new releases that we overlooked for our indie highlights in August 2026 feature earlier this month is something called Future Knight, which has recently released on Xbox and boasts a really cool LCD visual aesthetic!

The game is a 2D shoot 'em up in which you play as a robot attempting to save humanity's memory, taking place "inside the technology of a calculator and a liquid crystal display". It switches between both horizontal and vertical scrolling as you progress through the eight biomes that are on offer.

Early reviews for Future Knight are few and far-between right now, but our sister site Nintendo Life gave it a "Good" 7/10 in their review, while the Steam average is "Positive" - with 95% of people rating it on well on that platform so far.

If you're interested, Future Knight is £12.49 / $14.99 on the Xbox Store, and it works across Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S (but isn't an Xbox Play Anywhere title unfortunately). We'll leave you with more details and screenshots below.

Future Knight is a 2D action Shoot 'Em Up that fuses the nostalgia of LCD screens with the brutality of modern combat. Imagine your old handheld console coming to life, but with a bizarre story, frantic combat, and a unique visual aesthetic inspired by classic electronic handheld games.

8 hours, 8 biomes, one destination. Beat levels that alternate between horizontal and vertical scrolling with crazy physics. From dangerous construction sites to deadly sushi conveyor belts, every level is a critical hour before the mass memory wipe.
