Microsoft has begun adding an "Xbox Handheld" label to games like Gears of War: E-Day, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and more. The new graphic can be found by meandering down to the "Ways To Play" section.
Of course, this indicates whether specific titles are optimised for handheld play, similar to Steam Deck Verified, which, funnily enough, also includes Steam's logo on the store page.
This feature, however, isn't entirely new, Xbox already indicates whether a game is optimised for handheld devices when browsing the store on your chosen hardware, but not quite like this.
The folks over at Windows Central seem to think the specific wording "Xbox Handheld" could be adding to rumours that Microsoft is quietly working on an in-house Xbox handheld device, but we're not entirely convinced.
Memory prices are still extortionately priced, and we think there's a lot more to come from the ROG Xbox Ally X in 2026, but the new label does inspire an interesting train of thought.
Personally, I'm a big fan of Xbox Play Anywhere. I think it's one of my favourite Xbox features, but there's no pain greater than picking up my portable console and failing to find support for my console games in the Xbox PC app. I'd be happy if all this meant was the inclusion of more games from my Xbox library being supported by Xbox Play Anywhere.
