We're getting closer and closer to the Pure Xbox Game of the Year 2025 roundup (you'll see it on Christmas Day!), but before we get there, we thought we'd highlight the highest-rated Xbox games of 2025 according to Metacritic.
We're not surprised to see that the list is stacked this year, with six games reaching an average review score of 90/100 or greater, including the likes of Blue Prince, Split Fiction and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
You'll find the full list below, but keep in mind that Metacritic only counts games with seven professional reviews or more, and there are actually two games in joint-tenth position. We're going to go with the top 10 as listed on Metacritic.
- Split Fiction - 93
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - 91
- Hollow Knight: Silksong - 90
- Blue Prince - 90
- Monster Hunter Wilds - 90
- Borderlands 4 - 90
- ARC Raiders - 88
- Final Fantasy XVI - 88
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - 88
- Shinobi: Art of Vengeance - 87
The other game with an 87 average rating is Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, while other notable Xbox releases that just missed the cut include Silent Hill 2 (86), DOOM: The Dark Ages (85), Gears of War: Reloaded (85), Helldivers 2 (85), Assassin's Creed Shadows (85), The Outer Worlds 2 (83) and Oblivion Remastered (82).
Looking at the votes, the Pure Xbox Game of the Year roundup is going to look quite different to this top ten on Christmas Day! Only three of the games mentioned here feature on the PX GOTY list, so it's interesting to see how reviews don't always align with fan feedback. It also shows how 2025 has been an excellent year for new Xbox releases.
