
Borderlands 4 will be with us in just a few short hours, and we've already got an Xbox comparison for it!
Yes, courtesy of Fuzion Xbox Testing, footage of both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions is already available on YouTube, and the videos include performance tests for each console as well.
On Xbox Series X, Borderlands 4 is said to output at 1728p in both the Quality and Performance modes, and the visuals look decent at first glance - although admittedly we're not expecting anything too spectacular from a Borderlands game. Both the Quality and Performance options seem to stick to a mostly solid 30FPS and 60FPS respectively, but the footage does showcase a very brief frame drop in the Performance Mode.
On Xbox Series S, there's a suggestion that the output resolution is 1080p, and you can definitely tell that the texture quality is reduced and everything looks softer in general, although it still looks perfectly decent to our eyes. The big downside compared to the Series X version is that it's 30FPS only, although it seems to be a very solid 30FPS.
Now, there are a few caveats here. The first is that Borderlands 4 hasn't even been released yet, and there's a chance the day one patch (unless it's out already) could improve all of this further. If that ends up being the case and a 60FPS mode magically shows up for Xbox Series S, we'll obviously update this article as soon as we can.
The other thing to mention is that Fuzion Xbox Testing doesn't claim to be an analysis expert like Digital Foundry, so everything you see should be taken with a pinch of salt - especially when it comes to native resolution estimates.
And finally, you'll notice there are no local multiplayer tests in these videos, so it remains to be seen how the game performs with two players on screen at once.
