Back at the tail-end of March, we got wind of a brand-new RuneScape survival adventure that was planned for an Xbox release at some point - and it's now just launched in early access on PC for the first time.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the name of the game, and the early reviews in the first 24 hours have amounted to a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam so far. Here's just a sample of what we can hopefully expect on Xbox:

DaintyMalice on Steam: It's the perfect thing to play while grinding plankmake on OSRS, and the pacing has been much improved from the days of the alpha. This is a great deal of fun, and even more so with friends (despite a few struggles initially, easily fixed!)

jkovach2012 on Steam: I have had a TON of fun building & customizing houses, figuring out strats, dodging goblins & dragons in real-time combat that reminds me of Soulslike Games... I cannot wait to see more of this game and where this game will end up going in the future! 10/10 would reccommend to anyone who loves RuneScape!

ZoomyGloomy: Remember Jagex you have a bad history of abandoning games. DON'T DO THE SAME WITH THIS ONE. I think it's a brilliant start to something that could be huge!

It's not all positive right now, of course, but the majority of complaints seem to be related to things like performance and how the game is very much in an early access state - which shouldn't be an issue when it finally arrives on consoles.

There's no official release date for RuneScape: Dragonwilds on Xbox right now, but it seems likely to launch on Xbox Series X|S in 2026. The developer has indicated that console versions are planned, and perhaps it's for the best that we're not getting it just yet anyway, as the team can iron out all the kinks in the meantime.
