We've already mentioned here at Pure Xbox how the Minecraft Movie has been a massive success for everyone involved (including Xbox), but it's attracted controversy in some circles over viral videos that have been trending on social media.
The specific videos we're talking about feature groups of fans getting particularly rowdy, as well as throwing large amounts of popcorn around. In one situation, this actually resulted in the cops being called to the movie theatre:
Today, director Jared Hess has been getting a ton of press for his comments on the controversy, telling Entertainment Weekly that he finds it "weird" that cops are being called over fans who are having "too much fun".
Here's just a bit of what he had to say to the outlet:
It's weird when you're having too much fun and the cops get called. It's funny because I think it's just literally cheering and throwing popcorn, which is so funny to me that cops are getting called for popcorn.
Hess went on to tell EW that he's just "glad people are making memories with their friends and families", and that he's seen loads of great videos where people are cheering and climbing on their friends' shoulders while enjoying the film.
We're assuming he intended these comments in a more innocent way than they come across, but they've definitely resulted in backlash from some people who say that he shouldn't be promoting such behaviour. Many have asked these fans to think of the cinema staff who are not paid a great deal of money to deal with their antics.
