Way back in 2015, current Gears developer The Coalition released Gears of War: Ultimate Edition as its first entry in the famous Xbox franchise - and it looks like at some point, the team was also working on a similar remake treatment for Gears of War 2.
Posting out to social media this week (thanks, VideoGamer), former Gears of War artist Ayagaure "Ayi" Sánchez shared an in-game 'material test' for Gears 2's once-in-development remake. Sánchez says that this gross-looking model was made "10 years ago", but in the end, the project "never happened".
This is quite an interesting development, especially because Microsoft never formally announced such a project following the release of its Gears of War 1 remake. Funnily enough, The Coalition also shared some suspiciously high quality Gears 2 artwork a few years ago - that's what we've used as the lead image for this article right up at the top.
Anyway, if current rumours are to be believed, this could all be water under the bridge in the year 2025. As Microsoft continues to plot its Xbox multiplatform strategy, it sounds like some sort of Gears remake collection may well be in the works again - this time to launch on multiple platforms ahead of Gears of War: E-Day.
