EA has decided to transition The Sims 4 into a fully free-to-play title on Xbox, more than five years after its initial launch on the platform. The team feels that whilst new expansions are still in the works for the game and they are "committed" to the future of The Sims, now is the right time to move to free-to-play.

To celebrate, players can pick up a selection of free in-game rewards, as The Sims 4 goes free on Xbox. The rewards include "a variety of tattoos to adorn your Sims, and a special Plumbob ceiling fan", all available in The Sims 4, The Sims FreePlay, and The Sims Mobile, right now!

Xbox players get an extra bonus too - well, if you're a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber at least! EA is delivering an alternate edition of The Sims 4 via EA Play, which includes an additional expansion at no extra cost. Sweet!

That's not all for The Sims either. As the fourth game moves to a free-to-play format, the team has revealed that development is already underway on the next 'The Sims' game. The process is very early on right now, but 'Project Rene' is set to "fundamentally evolve how Sims think and behave, how players create and customize their worlds, and innovate in entirely new ways".

Will you be trying out some The Sims 4 now that it's free-to-play? Or are you waiting on 'Project Rene'? Let us know in the comments below!
