The CEO of Slime Rancher 2 dev Monomi Park has taken to Twitter to share the team's sheer surprise at how well the game is performing commercially so far. Despite only being in Early Access at present, and launching on Xbox Game Pass, Slime Rancher 2 sold 100k copies in less than six hours.
The dev said it was hoping it could get close to that kind of number within a day, so it seems to have smashed that goal by a good margin already!
When we sat down with the developer ahead of launch, they said that launching in Xbox Game Pass was "an easy decision", due to the service's guaranteed player numbers. The additional financial security that comes with a Game Pass launch will no-doubt help as well, on top of these impressive sales numbers.

Slime rancher one was a great game ,someone on here recommended it to me ( sorry forgot Thier name) and I was well impressed with it , they deserve it doing so well and it's not even a finished game yet , congrats to them

I think it's got to be taken on a game by game basis, just because this one succeeded doesn't mean all will, there will always be some games/devs that felt they lost out.
But I agree that for many titles it can be additional publicity that will lead to higher sales on other platforms and on Xbox itself. Especially for smaller games that just don't have a marketing budget.
You see the same with things like Fall Guys, Rocket League, etc. launching Day 1 onto subscription services propelled them into the big leagues. Though that may be because they were fundamentally great games and would have done brilliantly anyway. We'll never know.
But it's important to remember it isn't one size fits all there are plenty of games that launch into subscription services that don't sell like hotcakes.

I'm not a fan of the game but it's nice to see some positivity in the gaming world
This has been one of those series for the kids and I. Played the first one tonnes (still not finished), and they are VERY taken with the Cotton Slimes already. Seems to be a really positive story (the fact that they were number one on the Steam charts over the weekend is pretty cool)

First game was a lot of fun. Hoping they leave early release soon as I'd like to play through the "whole experience" the first time. Maybe that doesn't matter though...?
