Psychonauts 2 came to Xbox last August, not too long after developer Double Fine was scooped up by Xbox Game Studios. Just over a year after launch, a physical version is set to arrive — 'Psychonauts 2: Motherlobe Edition' — featuring some extra goodies and bonus content. Here's what's included.
First up, of course, you'll get the full game on disc. Psychonauts 2 was a purely digital release last year, arriving on Xbox Game Pass day one. If digital ain't your thing, here's your chance to play the highly-rated Psychonauts 2.
This physical 'Motherlobe' version also contains a few extras. There are some exclusive stickers, art cards and a reversible coversheet here; the usual for a physical special edition. However, the most intriguing bonus is a digital code for some behind the scenes footage, showcasing the making of the long-in-development Psychonauts 2.
All of this makes up the Motherlobe edition, which launches September 17th. Interestingly, the game remains last-gen only on PlayStation, whereas the physical version on Xbox will work natively across Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
In addition, there's also a Collector's Edition from the team at iam8bit featuring "exclusive pins for the Feast of the Senses, two exclusive posters, the first and second games on disc, downloads for the soundtrack, and so much more". That version appears to be available exclusively at the iam8bit website for $129.99.
You'll find pre-order links for the Collector's Edition and other iam8bit exclusives down below. The Motherlobe version doesn't appear to be available for pre-order just yet, but we'll update this article if we spot any links going live.

Might grab myself a ps4 version.
A bit late should have done this when the game actually came out.
Can't see them selling many copies as most people have already played it on Game Pass.
It was absolutely bonkers that they didn’t release this physically at launch.
They’d have actually got a PS4 sale out of me last year. Back then I didn’t have Game Pass and only bought physical.
Now I have played it on Game Pass and have no desire to spend money on a game I technically own already.
I'll grab the artbook for sure. I am an absolute sucker for a great artbook, especially one dedicated to the phenomenal world of Psychonauts.
The physical game...it's tempting to get just to display next to my OG Xbox copy of the first, but I really don't buy many physical games anymore for a reason, and especially with living costs going up and getting pickier about games I actually buy, I could probably put it towards something that isn't already readily available on gamepass.
@Rmg0731 You would pay 70 bucks for a last gen version instead of a fully optimized current gen for the same price? Well have at it.
@Rafie 1 for my collection, also i tried through a free month of gamepass on my series s but game kept crashing on me repeatedly. Did not have the issue on my PS5 which i got super discounted to try there.
I was hoping this would get a physical release. I'll definitely pick up a copy for the collection. Such a fun game, with beautiful visuals and it runs so smoothly at 120fps on my LG C1 OLED.
just curious why isn't there a next gen PS5 release?
@phoenix1 Microsoft enforced it so that it plays best on Xbox.
They also did a series X update for Hellblade that wasn't made available for the PS5.
Guess it makes sense considering that the studios are owned by them and will be exclusive from now on.
Loved Psychonauts 2 and probably would have bought this at launch. I’m not so sure I’ll be buying this now. Maybe if it goes down in price.
