As the Metal Gear series celebrates its 35th birthday, Konami has confirmed some very welcome news regarding legacy titles in the series. The publisher has taken to Twitter to reveal its intention of bringing back delisted Metal Gear games, which should include the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on Xbox.
Back in November of last year, Konami announced that it was "working on renewing the licenses for select historical archive footage" featured within classic Metal Gear titles, which led to the delisting of the HD Collection on Xbox, amongst other storefronts.
At the time, the company stressed that it was doing its upmost to bring the games back ASAP, so it was never their intention to delist them permanently. After eight months or so, it's nice to get confirmation of their intentions, even though we don't have a solid date for any re-listings just yet. Remember, this collection is backwards compatible, so once it returns, it'll be playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as well.
Are you excited to see these come back to the store in the future? Let us know!

Is this any better than the Silent Hill HD Collection? Speaking of... does the Silent Hill HD Collection work yet? Did it ever get its many, many issues ironed out? I have the Series S so I'm not keen on dropping another quid on the digital version unless I know it works.
@Kaloudz Yes to the first question, no to the second. MGS Collection is fantastic as it was handled by the exceptionally talented Bluepoint Games.
Silent Hill is still botched, but in my opinion the games are perfectly playable if you're unable to access it elsewhere.
@Olliemar28 Thanks my good man! Yeah my copy was totally unplayable. I think it was SH2, I just couldn't get through the apartment section. I can't remember exactly what the issue was but I recall restarting the game from scratch several times before throwing in the towel.
I love SH2 but damn, that long trek at the beginning just isn't fun when you're doing it solely in the hopes that the game works this time lol.
Perhaps I'll grab the digital version and pray for better luck? Now as for MGS, I'll give that a go when I get the chance if it's as good as you say
@Kaloudz I beat recently both Silent Hill 2 and 3 in my Series S with no serious issues. Yet again I am not the best at spotting those, it has been many years since the launch and I did not remember the games that well.
Man, I just want a rerelease of MGS4, I'm this close to just buy another PS3 for just this game.
@belmont Ahh I might just have to cave in. Perhaps I just had a bad experience? Issues I suffered with literally prevented me from continuing the game after certain points. Maybe it is time to dive back down and try it out.
@Kaloudz I played it on my one S & didn't notice any issues
Sh23hd is trash. They use alpha version game, not final game.play pc ver. or ps2 emu instead, if u want to play.
K should put Downpour back, even it not good enough though.
Give us a shiny MGS1 remake or remaster.
@Would_you_kindly Thanks chief. I'll grab a digi copy once I've finished Jetwash and Archvale. I'm sure I saw it on sale a few weeks back lol! Ah well...
@Kaloudz
Nyooo! I'm late replying. I hope you get this message. But I'm a diehard MGS and SH fan. Snake is one of my old crushes.
MGS HD is fantastic. There is almost no issues at all except for a few cutscenes where some of the character textures don't overlap and you see some gaps (usually around mouths) mostly in MGS3. These exist in the PS2 version too, except with the 480p resolution and the scan lines of old tvs it was never noticed. Also, the Xbox 360 never had pressure sensitive buttons so some gameplay mechanics like slowly lowering your gun without shooting (MGS2 and MGS3), or choking/killing a person in MGS2 require some weird workarounds (like equiping or unequiping the weapon). But they play fantastic.
MGS PW however definitely had a glowup. Dual control sticks means full camera control. Better control schemes, and better textures! If you can get past the blocky hands and small levels you'll find this game better than the original in almost every way. If I remember though the only issue is the cutscenes you could sometimes uncover things like easter eggs and clothes depending on how hard you press. in HD since there are no pressure buttons, if there are different layers of easter eggs you'll just skip directly to the ones that exist when you use full pressure on psp.
@Kaloudz
SH HD is honestly a mess. But emulating or buying the original games is not really an option for everyone. So for now (unless they get rereleased on PC like SH4 did) these are almost the best versions. The PS3 version of SH2 actually got a huge patch that added some missing textures, repaired some of the fog, and fixed some of the audio problems. It also brought the frame rate up to the 360 (which had a smoother rate). The 360 version never got that patch but on Series S and X it runs even smoother than either 360 or ps3 versions. It also funny enough doesn't have some of the texture and audio glitches that ps3 had prepatch. So it's not that far behind the patched ps3 version. Although some textures like an eyeball at the end remain unfixed in both versions, and SH HD on Xbox never got the fog effect quite right so it's more like a cone around you rather than a true fog. But the game is still playable and a lot of fun. Just be aware some cutscenes that take place outside look a little weird with the cone fog (which was used in the original the hide some of the draw distances).
@Kaloudz
Finally, SH 3, the version on Xbox one and s/x is the best version of SH HD. The ps3 patch brought SH 3 up to the same level as 360, although both had slowdown during certain parts (like in hallways in the mall or foggy areas). But on One, S and X that's gone. There was also a glitch that caused the game to slowdown depending on how long you played. One S and X got rid of that too.
Unfortunately since it also has missing textures and sounds, you won't get the original experience either. This is only really noticeable in three parts (that exist in all versions of SH3 HD). One is the sound of walking on metal grates, it has no variety like the original and is just the same sound recycled. Two, a cutscene almost at the end has the music cut off at the wrong time making a sudden moment less dramatic (if you haven't seen the original though you might not notice). Three, unlike SH2 HD they weren't able to renew the contracts for the original voice actors so you don't get the option of playing with the original voices.
Some of the voices kind of work... a little. Heather sounds much older (or like she talks in a lower vocal range) but she is played by the actor who voiced Rei Ayanami, so that's kind of cool.
Anyways, enjoy! With good headphones and a dark room the games are still just as spooky and memorable as when they first came out. And I would even go so far to say that the One/ X/ S version is very much playable... at least until Konami releases the PC versions or ports them again (properly).
P.S. I'm so sorry for the long messages. Please don't ban me @PureXbox
@Utena-mobile Holy moly that's one hell of an epic response. Thanks so very much for the heads up and for the kindness and time it took for you to go over all that. I massively appreciate it you're awesome!!
@Kaloudz
You're very welcome. ( ^_^)
@Utena-mobile Just wanna point out real quick since most people don't seem to know this— to compensate for the lack of pressure sensitivity in the buttons, you can press the left stick to lower your weapon(And iirc, you press it quickly two times to cut an enemy's throat in MGS3).
It actually kind of makes it easier because you won't accidentally let off the button too fast and shoot someone or press it too hard and accidentally cut someone's throat (^_^;)
@SnowTachi
Ooooh! Thank you! lol. And yeah, killing someone by accident is definitely a MGS occupational hazard. lol. ( ^_^)
