After a recent delay, CD Projekt Red has announced that the next-gen update for The Witcher 3 arrives later this year. It was initially scheduled to launch in Q2 2022, but the Polish developer has now confirmed it'll arrive in Q4.
As for a more specific date? The team is holding that back for now. However, given its initial Cyberpunk 2077 launch and the decision to delay The Witcher 3's next-gen update, we'd expect CD Projekt to take all the time it needs to get this one right.
The developer is also more hands on with the project at this stage. Initially, Saber Interactive was brought in to lead development on the next-gen upgrade, but the work is now being done in-house at CDPR before it ships this holiday season.

I hope it's actually worth while considering the delay...
At this point, who even cares anymore? All of these delays, although necessary and hopefully will provide a better product, are getting very annoying. Stop providing “dates” for when a game is releasing because it’s either way too early or won’t make the deadline.
A lot of gaps now in Q4 so hopefully this will arrive on time.
@A01 Hey, even they called it next gen 😅. I think lots of folk are still calling things 'next gen' until cross-gen passes us by and we're focusing purely on the new systems.
i bought it a couple of months ago and i haven't played it yet, since im looking forward to the update!
Wait, I picked up the Witcher 3 on sale a bit back for the sole reason that it was getting a next gen upgrade...that's still happening for current owners of the game, right?
delays are expected from CDPR. A wizard is never late. A wizard arrives precisely when they mean to. That being said. I say this is bull

Don’t give us a date, especially how often it’s been delayed. Just tell us when it’s actually ready as I’m not holding my breath that it’ll be ready in Q4.
The game is already running very close to 4k with a rock solid 60fps on Series X. How much better are they really gonna make it? The Cyberpunk upgrade was garbage 💩
Next gen upgrade, are we gonna need next gen hardware for this, or will current gen do? We have this stuff for close to 2 years now, stop calling it next gen
@Kezelpaso I mean, technically, for The Witcher 3, the new consoles are the next gen, so it will never not make sense to say that.
