Ray Tracing Was Accidentally Added To Minecraft On Xbox, Says Mojang

Mojang Studios got all of our hopes up when the Minecraft Preview on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S added ray tracing support earlier this week, but unfortunately it's being taken away again due to an unexpected error.

The team has revealed that this was prototype code that was never actually supposed to be added to the Minecraft Preview (at least not yet), and therefore they're having to remove the ray tracing features:

As you can see in the tweet above, Mojang says that despite the accidental addition of ray tracing this week, its presence "doesn't signal near future plans to bring raytracing support to consoles", so we might still be waiting a while.

It's a disappointment, but it at least signifies that the team is working to implement ray tracing in Minecraft at some point on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and fingers crossed it won't be too long until that becomes a reality.
