Kenny Omega Provides An Update On The New AEW Console Game

The release of WWE 2K22 is right around the corner on March 11th, but it's been a while since we've heard anything about the announced AEW game for consoles. Fortunately, AEW star Kenny Omega has shared some fresh insight.

Speaking to Wrestling Observer Radio (thanks to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription), Omega explained that the team is hoping to share some fresh footage soon, and they're working "nonstop around the clock" on the game.

He went on to speak a little more about what his personal hopes are for the project, admitting that the game won't be able to compete graphically with WWE 2K22, but he's hoping the gameplay will make up for it:

“It is coming along, and for us, at least for me, there’s a, there’s a large emphasis on just the wrestling aspect of the game. We want the wrestling to, and it’s tough to get that balance, but we want it to feel like, how a match would flow with, within a video game. So you know the matches will go, probably go, probably in general, go a little quicker."

“We’ll never be to compete with the production value of WWE’s game. You look at 2K22, it’s absolutely gorgeous. So I’m excited to see all their bells and whistles when it finally releases. But for us, rather than pushing, pushing the envelope massively or anything like that, we just want the wrestling to feel like how it used to feel for the people who would play wrestling games back in the day. And just have fun with fellow wrestling fans, or, you know, people that just want to have fun with their buddies."

We still don't know anything about a release date for this one as of yet, although Omega did suggest last year that he was hoping for a 2022 launch, which seems unlikely. The game is being developed by former WWE 2K and SmackDown! developer Yukes, with WWF No Mercy director Hideyuki “Geta” Iwashita also attached to the project.

Although we haven't seen any new footage in a while, you can check out the most recent snippet below.
