Rare's Sea of Thieves continues to go from strength to strength, as it's now passed over five million sales on Steam!
The news was announced earlier this week, with the team stating they were "overjoyed" by the milestone:
"We’re overjoyed to see more and more players – regardless of platform, device or where they are in the world – joining us on our pirate odyssey and making the Sea of Thieves an ever more vibrant place. On Steam alone, our thriving community now features over 10,000 discussions, thousands of people seeking others to sail with and close to 500 guides written by you, the players."
Xbox Game Studios has been enjoying immense success on Steam over the past few years, even despite the inclusion of its games in Xbox Game Pass for PC. Last year, six Xbox published games were top sellers on the platform.
To celebrate, Sea of Thieves is giving away a free "All Together Now!" emote for the entire community between now and December 29th at 23:59 GMT, and all you need to do is log into the game to obtain it.
"With Sea of Thieves being our first game developed in-house for PC as well as Xbox, we’re absolutely delighted to see such a huge influx of new pirates starting their adventures since the game made it to Steam in June last year."

Rare has done very well with SoT but has also put in a tremendous amount of work with constant patches, updates, seasonal activities, gameplay improvements, new features, reasonable prices for extras, etc.
Many of these AAA publishers think they can just throw together a gaas and make it work - it clearly takes a lot of hard work, resources and commitment.
Absolutely love Sea of Thieves. I just wish more people had mics.
I really miss the days of everyone and their mom having a mic. Sure you ran into more clowns, as with anything that has more adoption. But you also ran into more, great, people, as well. I've made lifelong friends back in the days of a mic being included with every starter kit, then every console.
Between now longer including mic, and party chat, I feel like it just isn't possible to get thar experience anymore. You're lucky to hear one person on a mic every few games.

I absolutely love sea of thieves. I was in the closed beta on my old laptop and I still enjoyed it but it didn’t run that well. Now with all the updates and it being on my series X it’s my most played game. What a success story!
Phenomenal game. One of my absolute faves in the last few years!
We spent about 18 months playing every Friday night as a full crew. Some fantastic memories ☺️ We still dive in every now and then while Halo is in the wild.

This is one of my most-played games. It's beautiful and it's different. I'd like more of these unique games like new Banjo-Kazooie and Viva Piñata games. This is what Xbox needs the most because it's what it doesn't have.
Just played this last night with 2 other friends. We just log in and go on little expeditions and have fun. It's a great excuse to get together and chat, drink, etc.. We haven't even really gone through the tall tales or campaign stuff yet. Still have all that to look forward to.
