Psychonauts 2 is one of the best games of the year, and it's just got even better. Double Fine has released a new update that not only brings a few bug fixes but also introduces a selection of quality of life improvements.
The update will prove useful for any collectable hunters out there who are still tracking down a handful of figments. Features such as checkmarks appearing next to locations in your journal when all collectables have been collected, and a photo filter to weed out any missing ones in the environment, have been added.
You can also see all available figments in your journal now, along with being able to visit Otto's Lab to enter a fighting arena and pick up any missing combat achievements you may yet need to obtain.
Here's everything included in the new update:
New Features:
- Bonus Psychoseismometer unlocked in Otto's lab after finishing Gisu's quest, making it possible to unlock enemy achievements during the post-game state.
- Checkmarks appear in location selection menus to indicate if all collectables in a location have been found.
- Otto-Spot photo filter to show collectables in the Otto-Shot photo mode.
- Show all available figments in the figment viewer menu even if you haven't found them yet.
Bugs Fixed:
- General stability improvements for all platforms.
- Improve environmental collision to prevent players and objects from rarely falling through walls and floors.
- Fix issues related to fall death and water curse, and prevent them from being broken if interrupted by a cutscene.
- Fix duplicate characters and stray animation appearing in some cutscenes.
- Fix the issue that could cause flickering around objects submerged in water.
- Improve save checkpoints to prevent the player's save data from getting into a bad state.
- Improve photo mode stability.
- Expand the mental health advisory message.
- HUD improvements to prevent extra health brains from appearing.
- Improve xCloud streaming touch controls.
From our own experience, the update weighs in just over 7GB on Xbox, so it's not too big. It's great to see some more support being added for the game, especially in regards to helping any achievement hunters out there. If you're missing a figment or two, this should help out immensely.

Oh, boy! I needed those features so much when I was hunting those damn figments. Some of them just blend with the background colors and are almost impossible to see. I swear to you that I got my last figment completely by accident. I just ran into it after searching for hours!
@SplooshDmg Same here! That level had bananas, grass and coconut's (I believe? May be misremembering) that were hidden a little too well.
I wonder if they sorted out the issue with not completing the final cook off challenge within time limit, thus not recieving final baggage tag required for said baggage in that level. You have to wait to complete the main story before it just becomes available to you. Would be nice if it were there when you just re-enter the level right away imo.
I 100%ed the game, achievements and all. So these QoL updates aren't that useful for me. Maybe on a second playthrough mind you. Which I will be doing soon for sure!
At least I can have some fun with my level 102 character against the new enemy rush/guantlent 'stage' at Otto's lab.
Pretty much same here - spent about 2-hours trying to get the last figment, didn't help that some out of reach objects looked like figments!
Good they updated it though, let's hope they're now concentrating on on part 3... (Is it even announced yet?)
Great updates here. I've finished it 100% already but the filter mode and more importantly the location checklist for the warp points is brilliant and would have saved me a couple of hours on the figment collecting.
What a brilliant game Psychonauts 2 was overall. I really hope we can get a third one some day.
Good update, just a shame that I have also ran across the mãos several times until I finally found them (and also checking some YouTube videos and going at the same time to see if I had missed any)
Love to see you so enthousiastic about the game after finishing it, even with these previous flaws. Will really have to start it sometime soon.
Nice they're working on bugs and QoL. I haven't played yet as I wanted to finish the first game, but I'm suck on a level near the end so I probably won't get round to it
I 100% before the the patch
Still playing Psychonauts 1 (which is excellent) but I got side-tracked finishing games to clear storage for Forza and Halo. Looking forward to the game and these additional QoL improvements.
