Rumour: A New Killer Instinct Is In Active Development For Xbox

Great news! Hopefully they give us a decent sized roster from the start this time

If true, this is great

@Kalvort this should be MS' version of Smash Bros leaning heavily on their FPS/RPG/fantasy IP(especially now they own Bethesda). They had the likes of the Arbiter , General RAAM and Battletoads before if they add in Master Chief, Doom Guy, Marcus Fenix etc it all fits pretty well into their userbase.
The last one was also mechanically a very good beat em up as well so it only works if you put the effort in.

Enjoyed my time with Killer Instinct on the Xbox One. A real underated title from the last gen.

If handled by the right team, this game could really take off thanks to Game Pass.
The 2013 game just came a little too soon and was ruined by the F2P stripped down model fighters were adopting at the time.

@elpardo1984 I have to agree with you. While I personally don't have an interest in Killer Instinct, I think a title that mixes KI characters and other Xbox IPs would be a brilliant idea. It would definitely make me more interested in the series. I mean, just look at how much attention Mortal Kombat is getting due to all the guest characters such as the Terminator or Rambo.

Imagine having Master Chief fight off against Doomguy, Dovahkiin or even Senua. There's so much potential for a great fighting game crossover here!

Killer Instinct 3 is still a modern game and was enhanced for Xbox One X. No problem with having Killer Instinct 4 soon and the possibilities are big as mentioned above but what about Banjo-Kazooie and Viva Piñata, sleeping since the 360 days?

@elpardo1984 Super Smash Bros play very differently to Killer Instinct. It has platforms you jump upon, you have to knock your enemies out of the map instead of depleting their energy bar and it's up to 4 players at the same time with items that make the fights feel very chaotic.

As for being a crossover, I think characters like Raz or Banjo Kazooie probably would look very out of place in KI.

@Royalblues I believe that at least some leaks are deliberate. Those rumors keep fans excited and engaged, hence why the companies wouldn't use it to their advantage?

Of course most rumors are indeed false and we often can't tell which is which, but those guys who keep leaking information that turns out to be true, like Klobrille and Jez Corden are most likely being fed directly from the Xbox marketing team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Klobrille turns out to be Aaron Greenberg himself.

I hope they don't ruin this one with their almost 'f2p' model they adopted for the last. It made the menu's a cluttered mess. The story mode season thing was totally lacking. And, I personally, hate paying for games to see locked content throughout. I get additional fighters will always come as dlc but show them if I purchase them.

Give me a more polished killer instinct. Levels with multiple layers. Each character to have an intro and outro upon completion. And a decent boss.

@Magabro I wasn't talking in terms of play style. More its position beat em up as a service with characters from external IP becoming available.

I love fighting games. Hate the way KI plays though; stupid auto-doubles are just the worst idea for a genre that prides itself on the connection between what the player is inputting, and what moves come out of the characters. Fundamentally, if you hit say 5 buttons and 8 moves come out because of the auto-doubles, you're just making a button masher. Its annoying. It doesn't feel right.

That being said, KI always LOOKS and SOUNDS awesome. I don't want to hate it, but I just can't stand how it plays. If they get rid of auto-doubles, I'm onboard in an instant, but axing something that fundamental to it would certainly rile up the fanbase so I don't see it happening. For all who enjoy it though, I'm happy they're finally moving forward with a KI4 - its not for me, but this should be a healthy series for Microsoft and they should support it correctly with regular sequels.

I'm genuinely curious to find out who's handling the new game if this rumor pans out. I'd love to see Arika (Fighting EX Layer) get called up here; FEXL never hit the Xbox but it was awesome and looks pretty damn great - very comparable to Double Helix/Iron Galaxy's work on KI3 imho. However, since Microsoft has garbage relations with Japanese studios, I could see N-way (Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid) or Sirlin Games (Fantasy Strike) maybe getting the job since they're American. Or, OR, how cool would it be if Itagaki Games' first title was Killer Instinct 4? The dude gave the world Dead or Alive, and he's an unabashed Xbox fan - if anyone could handle Killer Instinct, I kinda want to see HIM do it.

I doubt I'll play it, but I really want Killer Instinct 4 to happen because there's certainly people who will enjoy it, and it seems potentially very exciting depending on who Microsoft has working on it and how development shakes out.

@elpardo1984 KI is too complicated for that target audience, plus people would expect 2-button / command normal inputs for the game and other Smash-like games.

My real question is why the Xbox one killer instinct didn’t get a series s upgrade.

MS just show a teaser with only the logo 😂 everyone will be happy.
Or a game killerinstinct vs mortal kombat. With fatalities back also for killerinstinct characters as the previous games.
