Xbox is set to host a Gamescom stream tomorrow evening (August 24) at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT / 7pm CET. While the advertising for the show is hyping it up, Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg has come forward to temper expectations.
According to an Xbox Wire post, the show will be 90 minutes long, but Greenberg added on Twitter that fans should not expect "new reveals or major surprises". Instead, the focus of the show is on game updates coming this year.
We're expecting something similar to the Xbox Games Showcase Extended which aired just after E3. During this, viewers were treated to a selection of interviews, extended gameplay segments and a few smaller announcements, such as a next-gen upgrade for A Plague Tale: Innocence.
With some huge titles on the horizon such as Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5, you can probably expect updates for games such as those, along with a few others. In fact, we're hoping to finally hear of a Halo Infinite release date following the Call of Duty: Vanguard announcement.
Fingers crossed!

I'm excited. But then, I'm excited for any events of this nature š
I'm sure it'll be an exciting 90 mins and have some exciting moments and new details for games I'm excited for.
Exciting.
To be expected, there are a lot of games announced for 2021 that don't have dates so I'm happy to hear more about those.
@LocalPenguin Now I'm excited.
Hopefully Xcloud for console will have some news on it.
They are massively hyping this up for something that has no āmajor revealsā.
Iām guess they might actually have Halo campaign footage?
@mousieone 343 said in the video this week that campaign footage will be shown closer to launch, so I doubt it unfortunately.
Just give me a release date for Atomic Heart, please.
Also, let me know if Halo Infinite is a garbage can of adspace for Monster and Mondeles products while simultaneously being a shell of a complete game (also called an āevolving service experienceā), or if it truly is the Halo weāve too long needed. The PR for the game has been so confusing and continues to have me guessing, which must be what they want, right?
@SplooshDmg lol better watch out with that optimism. I do expect them to put one hidden reveal in it, like ubi did with avatar.
@FraserG then I have no idea why theyād hype it? I mean what counts as āminor surpriseā?
Why are they hyping it up so much when there are no new announcements
@SplooshDmg completely agree, trust no-one not even yourself. When it comes to these type of things surprise announcements are inevitable. Either way I don't care much for a new game announcement, just wanna see saints row the day after.
@mousieone New controller colours maybe?
@Grumblevolcano sure thatās always fun. But did they need to hype up Gamescon for that? I mean we have all the FH5 footage we need. There wonāt be new HI footage. We had a bunch of indie games shown earlier this month. Any big title on GP would be a major surprise in my book.
Just happy to see the long game coming to fruition, even if no big new or reveals.
It'll be nice to see updates.
In Phil, we trust.
It's 6pm BST not 6pm GMT (second time i've pointed this out on here today lol)
Weird that they are hyping this about as heavily as E3 a few months ago but claim nothing major will be there.
I guess they could have Elden Ring stuff. They do have the marketing for that. But at this point I feel like itās an hour of game dev talks.
@mousieone I was just giving an example of what a surprise that isn't major could be. Xbox Games Showcase Extended's surprise was the return of Xbox Design Lab for example.
Not sure whether it would be considered a major surprise but perhaps some of the games announced in 2019 and 2020 with no release window have some presence here like Hellblade II and Forza Motorsport turn out to be 2022 games. They definitely wouldn't count as new reveals.
Im guessing gameplay footage and some date announcements . Is this only for 2021 or games releasing next year as well? Personally I would love to see more of Contraband, Redfall and Perfect Dark.
