Asobo Studio has announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator is adding competitive multiplayer with a new expansion later in 2021 in the form of Reno Air Races, "allowing you to race against your friends and pilots around the world".

Available this fall, the "major" first expansion for Flight Sim will allow you to race against your friends or pilots from around the world, based around the famous STIHL National Championship Air Races, the world’s fastest motorsport.

"Many of the planes can fly up to 500 mph at an altitude between 50 ft and 250 ft above ground. The Reno Air Races represent the first major expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator."

In addition, Microsoft Flight Simulator will be adding its sixth free world update on September 7 with the likes of new aerial imagery, high-resolution elevation maps and several brand-new 3D cities for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

New aircrafts are on the way too, with a range of new “Local Legends” releases set to highlight famous regional aircrafts in conjunction with World Updates, while the the VoloCity air taxi is also releasing in November of this year.
