Now we finally have a release date for Psychonauts 2, we are beginning to see a lot more of the game. The latest deep dive from the game's creator Tim Schafer gives us perhaps our most insightful look yet, spilling all the story details, and giving us a taste of the areas we'll be visiting in the game.
If you want to go in absolutely blind, it's probably best to avoid watching, as Schafer does go into a fair amount of specific story details - but we'll give you a simple rundown. The video explores some of the minds of people you'll be inhabiting in Psychonauts 2, looking at the new emphasis on combat, as well as the platforming challenges. From the mind of an amateur dentist, to fixing someone's gambling addiction, there's a varied amount of level design on display.
Most excitingly, we get a look at the Campgrounds, returning from the first game. The hub world looks absolutely gorgeous, with multiple new areas to explore, collectibles to find, and tons of secrets awaiting. If you've played the first game, you'll no doubt be aware of the charm the Campgrounds possesses, so it's great to see it expanded upon further here.
If you're still unaware what all the fuss is about for Psychonauts 2, you can check out the first game right now on Xbox Game Pass, or you can wait until August 25 for the sequel. It's a truly unique, charming, and downright weird platformer that deserves all the attention it gets.
