Seems like it's been a long time coming, but DOOM Eternal is now upgraded for Xbox Series X|S with a lovely free update.
Players can take advantage of three modes on Xbox Series X and two on Xbox Series S. The Series X specific modes include a raytracing mode, which runs at 60FPS at 1800p; Performance Mode, which runs at 1800p with up to 120FPS support; and a Balanced Mode, which provides high visual fidelity at 4K at 60 FPS.
As for Xbox Series S owners, there's two modes to take advantage of. Performance Mode again runs up to 120FPS, but at a 1080p resolution, and there's a Balanced Mode, running at 1440p with 60FPS. Lots of options to choose from dependent on what your preference is.
DOOM Eternal’s free next-gen upgrade has arrived! Experience next-gen performance on Xbox Series X with three graphics modes: Ray Tracing Mode, which provides accurate lighting and reflections, Performance Mode, which provides smooth gameplay 120 FPS, and Balanced Mode, which provides high visual fidelity with 4K at 60 FPS.
Back in March, id Software said we'd be hearing more about DOOM Eternal throughout the year. Outside of this update, we haven't heard much else, so could more be on the horizon? After the fantastic Ancient Gods expansions, we'd certainly be happy for more adrenaline fuelled gameplay. Fingers crossed there's more in the works!

1800p@120fps
1800p @ 120fps is awesome, especially since 1800 is pretty close to 4k anyway (thanks marketing for that confusion). I'd rather have 1800p @ 120 than 2160 (4k) @ 60
I'm all upgraded and have been holding off on playing The Ancient Gods until this update landed. Doom Eternal looked lush on a bog standard Xbox One.
Id tech 7 is an amazing engine, just had a go for an hour between the football and it looks great. I see no reason why anyone would want to play with RT off as it looks much better with it and still a very high resolution. I got this at launch and it didn't click with me but over the last day or so its starting to and the super shotgun is one of the all time great weapons
@The_New_Butler I loved Doom 2016 but this is more about balancing all of your abilities then that and it took me a while to get away from just wanting to use one gun. Starting to have a lot of fun now though as I make use of all the tools at my disposal and yes its so fast and fluid
It's not that easy to choose a mode if you have a 120fps TV (such as C9, CX, C1...).
"ray tracing mode, which runs at 60FPS at 1800p; Performance Mode, which runs at 1800p with up to 120FPS support; and a Balanced Mode, which provides high visual fidelity at 4K at 60 FPS"
The first has ray tracing, the second is up to 120fps and the last one provides high visual fidelity... Which one are you going to stick to?
Gonna start this up after work tomorrow, definitely going to use the ray tracing mode.
No ray-tracing on Series S?! 😬
@BlueOcean I don't see much point in the 4K60FPS mode if I'm honest, the ray tracing mode just looks better, with access to 120fps then that's a tricky choice between those 2
@gingataisen the Series S is going to regularly struggle or just not have ray tracing due to its low CU count in the GPU
@carlos82 If what you predict comes to pass, that's one hell of a broken promise. (Ignore the pun, please. 😓)
