Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid may have released back in 2019, but two years down the line it's still getting new content with a new pack coming on May 25. Oh, and that new content will see the game introducing a Street Fighter crossover, because why not?
Both Ryu and Chun-Li from the Street Fighter universe will be playable characters in a new pack, each with their own Power Rangers infused armour. The Street Fighter pack retails at $12.50, coming packed with Ryu in Crimson Hawk Ranger attire, Chun-Li with the Blue Phoenix Ranger outfit, and more skins to be revealed at a future date. Alternatively, each character can be purchased separately for $5.99.
Ryu has received his own trailer, and is said to have "his moves executed using classic, genre-defining input commands". Iconic moves such as Hadouken will return, so get practicing those combos if you want to show the other Power Rangers who's the boss.
"Lord Zedd has weakened the Morphin Grid and is starting to break down the walls between realities. Ryu finds himself transported to the world of the Rangers where he acquires a Power Coin and takes on the mantle of the Crimson Hawk Ranger.
"Ryu brings to the battle his trademark stoic, reserved poise and a lifetime of Shotokan training. His fluid, almost water-like fighting style is deadly at both range and up close, with his moves executed using classic, genre-defining input commands. Keep opponents on their toes from a distance with classic Hadouken, or punish aggressive play up close with his Tastumaki Senpukyaku or iconic Shoryuken."
For any kids at heart who ever imagined getting weird and wonderful crossovers such as this, there's never been a more perfect DLC for you. It's a strange collaboration, especially so far after its original release, but ultimately one that is highly welcomed. A physical version of the game with all post launch content is also confirmed to be coming in July known as the Super Edition, so keep an eye out for that if you're a collector.

It's not that weird to add these characters this time around, I believe they were in nWay's previous Power Rangers game for mobile.
Having said that, I would have been surprised when they added these characters to that older game a few years back!
Damn though, a super edition? You just never know which digital games will get physical releases, complete editions at that! This one stings a little bit because I've bought the game and all its DLC (when it was on sale) over the years
@ralphdibny Honestly that's the biggest problem with fighting games these days, they all seem to feature multiple season passes they milk the fans for, then they come out with a "super ultra deluxe edition" with all the DLC for a fraction of the price you would have spent on it if you got the game earlier. By this point I am just sorta over the fighting game scene as a result, if I pick one up I am just going to wait for the all DLC included edition and get that on sale.
I miss the days when you could just buy a new fighting game and get all the content with your initial purchase and unlock new things as you went along. Now it's like half the game gets split off in extra DLC sold by the season.
@JayJ same here, I was reminiscing about Rival Schools over on Push Square a week ago and how that game was stuffed to the brim with multiple versions of the game and loads of extras and mini games.
Nowadays I either buy fighting games on a whim or I judge by the developers/publishers previous form with releases. E.g. Bandai Namco aren't known for physical complete editions so I got DB FighterZ and slowly picked up the DLCs when they go on sale. On the other hand, Netherealm are known for their complete editions so I've been waiting patiently for a complete mortal Kombat 11 for years (I've heard even MK11 Ultimate isn't complete and that there is space in the game to add a number of new fighters so I've held out on that one even though I'm real tempted by its current £25 price at Currys). Street fighter IV got a more or less complete version by the next gen (PS3>PS4) so hopefully next year or the year after for SFV.
But yeah nWay had no previous form because they'd only made a mobile game prior so Battle for the Grid was a bit of a punt really! Had no idea it would be popular enough to warrant 4 DLC passes and various physical releases!
Tekken and Soul Calibur just get the passes too, no complete editions so it's just worth making do with the base game on them. I won't even go near the latest Dead or Alive though, £55 for a season pass? Get real! 😂
RalphDibny's 100% right. This is actually a callback to N-Way's mobile title, Power Rangers Legacy Wars. So yeah, this is the not the first time Ryu's gotten his Ranger on. Though last time they had a sweet live action trailer:

This game IS really great though, and it's easy enough to keep jumping back into without having to run through the whole training mode to relearn techniques specific to this one game. I've found myself rolling off of games like Sam Sho or Guilty Gear because of that kind of thing, but I will keep coming back to Power Rangers whenever they add new characters.
I would LOVE to see them do more crossover cameos like this though. BOOM Studios' have done a bunch of good ones with the Power Rangers' comic over even just the past 2-3 years, and they're the studio who supplies the keyart for the story mode in this game. After their Power Rangers/TMNT event, it would be freakin' awesome to see the TMNT Rangers show up as future DLC. Their designs are pretty awesome.
@Vinsanity that is a pretty rad trailer! You've gotta applaud Jason David Frank for keeping a straight face through some of that lore heavy dialogue though 😂.
I've got the TMNT and Justice League crossovers because they are fairly self contained, I don't really have the time/money to get into the main Boom series as good as it sounds. I do have the 6 foil Montes variant covers framed on my wall though, of the ranger's torsos holding their helmets around their tummy area. I didn't get the foil turtles variants because there were just too many combinations! Also I kept having visions of a grim alternate where a ranger would be holding a turtles head instead 😅
I picked up a couple of the Guilty Gear games on PS4 a few weeks a go because they cost like a quid each. Well worth it at that price!
