R-Type Final is a side scrolling shooter that appeared on the PlayStation 2 back in 2004. A long awaited mainline sequel is finally arriving, and for the first time in the series will be making the jump to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on April 30.
R-Type Final 2 will deliver visceral side scrolling action, as players upgrade their ship and deal with deadly waves of oncoming enemies. A unique difficulty system scales enemies towards the player’s performance, constantly pushing back and demanding skill to succeed.
“The legendary shoot-'em-up hit is back with an unparalleled R-Type experience! As the latest instalment of a series renowned for its colourful visuals and frenetic shooter action, R-Type Final 2 steps it up in its explosive debut on current platforms with 3D graphics and modernised gameplay features.
New and old players alike can shape their experience to their liking with the performance-based difficulty system and customisable ships and pilots, while experiencing classic R-Type trademarks such as the “Force” mechanic and an addictive gameplay loop.
Navigate an entire universe of new and classic stages, face enemies that evolve with your performance, and blast the competition away with worldwide leaderboards in this successor to the acclaimed R-Type franchise.”
It’s definitely one for the retro fans out there, and it’s great to see a long running series that was primarily on other consoles finally make its way to the Xbox family... with Smart Delivery support!

I am so pumped for this. Loved R-Types/Dimensions. So many great shmups on Xbox but nothing hits quite like R-Type.
So R-Type Final wasn’t actually the final R-Type 😂😂 surely they could have come up with a better game title than R-Type Final 2 🤦♂️
Super stoked for this one, and that collector's edition looks legit for $50. You can never have too many good shmups.
R-Type made me fall in love with shmups. 😍
