According to one industry analyst, Microsoft has shifted 3.5 million Xbox Series X|S systems since their launch back in November last year. The total number reportedly makes it 1 million less than the PlayStation 5.
In a response to IGN's report on the PS5 sales, one of the site's editors took to Twitter, pondering how many consoles Microsoft has shifted since the next-gen launch. Daniel Ahmad, a senior analyst at Niko Partners, reported that the Xbox Series X|S sales are "a bit over 1 million off the PS5 number".
With the global pandemic, acquiring a console has been notably harder than previous years. However, as it stands the figure is only slightly lower according to Video Games Chronicle, which has reported 3.9 million Xbox One consoles were sold within the first launch quarter back in 2013. As the current worldwide situation stands, we think this is pretty good going and hopefully more people will be able to get their hands on a shiny new console this year.

Not bad for a console with "no games."
Good figure, in and of itself, but I guess the Sony fans are still able to shrug it off...
I'm just happy i was lucky enough to be one of the 3.5 million.
I've said it before but I got my series S by randomly checking GAME's online store before going to work then asking my brother to get it for me as I live in flats and sometimes get the wrong letters through my door. Didn't want someone scoring my console for free. I paid my brother the money after work then got my S before the end of January. No regrets.
@IronMan30 probably accounts for most of the die hard Xbox fans right?
Good to see strong numbers from both sides ππ»
I didn't think that either company would have great sales to start off, because of the pandemic, stock shortages, and scalpers being the scum of the earth that they are. I'm glad to see that not only was I wrong, but the majority of sales have been made to actual fans, not scalpers.
Good to see both consoles doing well at this stage. Also good to see some more stock arriving and scalper prices decreasing, which means soon the next generation consoles will not be worth scalping as much. Cash prices at CEX are now down to Β£550 for them to buy, so itβs get less appealing to scalp. I think if we good supply in February and then March the scalping will disappear, which is great for all.
Happy I got both consoles, and my experience was relatively painless - even was able to snatch consoles at different dates for friends
Not bad at all, Phil Spencer has done an amazing job promoting the Series X/S and the Xbox brand..
@Casco I got the ps5
Looking for a series x. On the verge of going the eBay route. π€¦ββοΈ
@ThanosReXXX When I read the headline I was like ok we may finally have some numbers... When I read the article... πππ GTFO!!! That dude literally just guessed and you guys are posting this crap like its some credible news πππ Proof that xbox fans run with ANYTHING even if its BS and lies!!! VGCharts had them at 2.8. thats more reliable than this guy throwing out a random number.
Sony wiped the floor with xbox last quarter. ps5 not only outsold Series X/S but Sony sold more PS5s in 2 months than MS sold XOnes ALL YEAR! Theres a reason why Microsoft is tight lipped about console sales, game sales, Live Gold subs... all they talking about is Game Pass subs. 18million subs and they still made less money than Sony Q3 2019 when PS4 sales were at its lowest.
Not bad considering both MS and Sony are literally selling out of what they are able to ship at the moment.
Also worth noting, Series X/S was the highest selling console for January in the UK, so I have a feeling this is going to be a lot closer this gen, similar to the PS3/360 era.
For note, Nov was PS5, Dec was Switch, Jan was Series X/S.
@12TerribleFLOPS @12TerribleFLOPS lol enter Sony pony troll lol just why? I never understood the angst. Microsoft is the second most valuable company in the world 2nd largest market cap as well. Console wars are for tolls with no life and is so 2011 lol. Good grief just enjoy games Iβve had both consoles since day 1 ps1 and og Xbox will never understand this console war garbage. Please seek therapy
@blinx01 these numbers dont mean anything really at the minute, for Sony or Microsoft, in terms of who is selling more each month as demand is far outstripping supply. In a month were Sony cant get consoles out to stores you would expect MS to sell more and vice versa. We'll only get a true reflection of how this looks like playing out when the market is flooded with devices.
Id be interested in seeing the split in X and S figures as well but i dont think we'll ever know. Picked up an S for one of my kids and the size of it blows my mind evetytime i see it.
Either way these numbers make a joke out of the experts predicting console gaming would be dead a few years back.
@Reverandjames Thanks for confirming you are a sheep, you are glad you sold it because they aren't winning in sales lmao
Even if that mattered you do realise both console are sold out, PlayStation have built more currently that's all it tells us... But nice to know what your priorities are, just got to make sure you have the more popular console, that's all that matters
And you joined this site just today to tell us you sold the console this site is dedicated too.... Sure you had 1 kiddo suree
@Reverandjames So you thought all this yet you claimed you still bought a series x/s? Lmao you loner fanboys really aren't the brightest... Keep worrying about a plastic box you never even owned.
P. S I don't have to pretend to like anything, unlike you I think for myself, and I can like things for what they are, I like the Medium very much thanks(a game you have never played most likely, don't embarrass yourself further by pretending you played it on your 'high end PC') , and get this...it will be shocking to someone like you, I didn't like Call of the sea very much... I know crazy I can like and dislike games that come to the xbox
Enjoy the nightmares about xbox, hopefully one day you will get a life and realise what an embarrassment you are being so concerned about plastic boxes.
@StylesT don't feed the troll account, check post history, it's just one of the random bored ps fans that pop up every so often. I doubt this person has ever owned an Xbox, likely not even an Xbox controller for their PC.
@Reverandjames
I will never understand why some people think exclusives are everything. I explicitly decided against a PS5 even though I guess they will have a lot of exclusives again. It's not important to me, because in the end, these exclusives are just more of the same.
The new Spiderman games are celebrated even though they do the exact same thing as multi-platform Spiderman games from several years back. I guess these have just been forgotten? Horizon Zero Dawn is now out on PC, and I'm still not interested. Same goes for Death Stranding. Why would I explicitly want to play a Remake of Demon's Souls? If I wanted to play something like that, I'd have plenty of other choices.
I fail to see the appeal in exclusivity. I mean, compare the sales numbers of the PS4 with the sales numbers of Sony exclusives. Only a minority seem to really buy into this.
In the end, for most, it's nothing more than a gamble. Sony brings out more exclusives, so the assumption is, chances are higher to get what they want on Sony's platform. Reality however is, you do not know that. Especially not with MS going on shopping tours lately. Enter the Sony fanboy that vigorously tries to defend his decision to buy a PS5, making up things left, right and center, and cherry picking little distorted things to proclaim: "SEE WE WERE RIGHT! WE SO GOOD. CERNY'S MAGIC SAUCE!" ... For some people this all really seems to be some kind of magic. A religion that ignores simple physical and mathematical facts.
I digressed. What I actually wanted to say was: Exclusives are not everything. There are people like me, who - for example - decide to go for a specific console, because it's the more powerful. So I can expect to have the best results when playing games, especially in the long run - plus, Game Pass ... It's a simple monetary consideration. If it had been the PS5, I would have bought that. But it wasn't.
I know, a Sony fanboy will now be quick to point out that current cross gen games mostly run better on the PS5, but that's just eyewash born out of ignorance. I won't deny current differences in FPS or graphics, but in order to interpret this correctly you have to understand WHY this is happening at the moment. Because it's simpler to just throw more MHz at a last gen game, than to rip open its code and make it work well with more cores. That was just one example, don't get tied up on it ... Most loudmouthed Sony fanboys don't understand, and they don't even bother to. Why would they? For them it's something to easily point at. A glittering magical prove. Even though more and more counter examples creep up, they just close their eyes, pretending there is nothing or claiming, something fishy is going on. Conspiracy theories work the same way ...
PS: Disclaimer. There are stupid people on Xbox's side as well, yes.
@Reverandjames You telling anyone to grow up lmao the irony... Enjoy your fail trolling fanboy
@docjcj What does MS market cap have to do with their failures with xbox? MS got so much money they tried to double the price of xbox Live?
@matt1040 just wait. don't give money to scalpers.
