One of the many games highlighted during the first day of BlizzCon Online, was the upcoming hero-based shooter, Overwatch 2.

Earlier this month it was confirmed by Activision Blizzard how the title was not planned for a 2021 launch, and in the latest update, the team has now shared some insight as to why it won't be coming out this year.

It all comes down to Blizzard wanting to make the game as good as it possibly can - with the goal for it to be a true sequel and worthy successor:

"I think we need some more time till we can say it's perfectly polished in the way that we want it... Our goal is for Overwatch 2 to be the worthy successor to the first game, to be the next evolution, to be a true sequel."

When Overwatch 2 was announced in 2019, Blizzard said the original Overwatch game would have access to the sequel's PvP content. This initially raised concerns about how much of a "sequel" the follow-up actually was - so hopefully manages to achieve its goal.

Blizzard also showed off some new maps, hero missions, enemy units and more for the second game:
