The Xbox exclusive multiplayer online game Bleeding Edge only released last March, but now developer Ninja Theory has confirmed it will no longer be providing content updates for the title moving forward.
In a message on Twitter, the studio explained that it wanted to focus on its new projects, (Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, Project Mara and The Insight Project), and therefore had come to the decision:
It's been highlighted in the past how the game has suffered a very low player count on PC (and presumably Xbox One), and therefore the decision ultimately doesn't come as much of a surprise.
Nevertheless, it's definitely a shame to see how this one didn't take off - we noted how it had plenty of potential back at launch in March 2020, but even with the backing of Xbox Game Pass, it appears to have suffered heavily.
Sad to hear of Ninja Theory's plans for Bleeding Edge? Let us know in the comments below.

Was a great game. But only kf your team communicated. You would get stomped otherwise
Only tried it once, really needed the whole team working together, so annoying if one of your team goes off because you just get annihilated if the other team stick together
I am starting to wonder just how many people are actually playing anything on Xbox.
No knock on the system, but I was playing the latest story DLC on Gears 5 and every single Achievement I have unlocked has been considered a "Rare" achievement. Hasn't the story DLC been out for a couple months already? I wouldn't think the very first Achievement you get in the DLC would be Rare as it's not that far into the story. I wouldn't think it's because I am on a Series X as I would think the Achievements are the same across the board no matter the system.
Also, I think it was....maybe the Tomb Raider Trilogy of games where normal gameplay Achievements started to pop as Rare Achievements. I think Control was the same way.
Very odd, indeed.
@GamingFan4Lyf this is really common in all platforms. See, I've finished Gravity Rush 1 & 2 on PS4 and both from the second story achievment onward were all rare trophies, days gone were most of them uncommon. Those 3 games on PS4 I played and finished last year. I noticed that on gears 5 DLC, but I played it at lauch so I can't say.
What I think is that there are more people that left their games unfinished then we can imagine, that's why we have so many uncommon or rare achievments / trophies.
@GamingFan4Lyf going along with what @crazyjf said... when you play a game for the first time, it automatically includes you in that player base, even if you just try it out for a few minutes then uninstall, or if you play with a friend on their system under your own gamer tag. This means that the “player base” for these games can be extremely high but the percentage of that base getting achievements is thereby more rare. As for Gears 5 DLC, since it is dlc, every person who played Gears 5 is included in that percentage, many of which haven’t played it in a while (I personally still have yet to play hive busters for instance, even though I’ve played Gears 5).
I stick with it for a few days and fell off it. It was just so clunky and laggy and there are more than enough superior alternatives if I want to play something online.
@xMightyMatt14x @eduscxbox @CrazyJF It's all just surprising - gamer attention spans are really fickle, I guess.
I mean, I played the Tomb Raider games in 2020 and I thought for sure I there wouldn't be any Rare achievements for just regular gameplay, but as you say, just firing up the game adds a player to the pool of possible players.
At least Ninja Theory know when to get out unlike Crystal Dynamics who are still flogging the dead horse of the Avengers game hoping people will bite when they could be making a new Legacy of Kain title.
@Royalblues if your hopes for a good game rest with destruction all-stars of all things, God help you.
Surprising it wasn't abandoned earlier. It was hands down the worst game I played since Dice's Battlefront 2.
That's a real shame but have to admit it isn't my kind of game in the slightest. Super excited for Hellblade and the other games though!
@eduscxbox or they are like me and only play the online portion of gears 5 not enough time to delve into single player for me....
@Blessed_Koz You're right. That makes sense too. Gears has a massive online community just like halo, so makes sense that some people play online only
@GamingFan4Lyf does gears 5 have single player story dlc , I didn't think it would have any
@Would_you_kindly Yes, it's called Hivebusters and follows a trio of new characters in a completely separate location from the base game.
It's included if you have a Game Pass subscription. Not sure how much it costs to buy.
@Royalblues yeah, it looks like I was pretty much right on the money with this one.
