The Christmas No. 1 has officially been crowned in the UK boxed charts, and that honour goes to Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which was the top selling physical game in the region over the past week.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the game enjoyed a 66% increase in sales due to recent discounts, while CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 dropped by around 80%, which isn't hugely unusual, but was likely impacted by its recent negative press.
Elsewhere, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Watch Dogs: Legion jumped up the charts to 12th and 14th, enjoying 107% and 98% increases in sales respectively. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War only just failed to secure the No. 1 spot, which marks the first time the Black Ops sub-series has failed to achieve that feat.
Here's a look at the top ten all formats chart for the week ending December 19th:

Crazy when you think how much damage has been done.
My most played game at the moment ACV on series x.
Well done UBI, an above average game that runs very well for me.
Here in the States I was in a Best Buy this weekend and saw massive Cyberpunk displays. I even saw CP2077 in customer's hands.
I always feel that while we get information readily here, most people do not. Nothing on the display hinted at issues with the title and they had Cyberpunk accessories, figure or toys (?), some type of t-shirt and the actual games for sale. AND people were buying them.
Somebody was still asking for it for Christmas and it was being purchased. I hardly even think the blue shirted employees could even speak to CP2077 issues, if even asked.
Edit: Oh and Valhalla is the gift that keeps on giving. Great game!
I used the money refunded from my Cyberpunk 2077 preorder to buy AC Valhalla. It's definitely a more polished game at this point.
So far, I probably enjoyed Odyssey more overall. But on Series X Valhalla is beautiful with all the lighting and volumetric effects. I love how much the time of day and weather changes the landscape.
You just know Cyberpunk 2077 would of taken the No. 1 top spot if it wasn’t for it’s disastrous launch. It doesn’t even deserve to be in the top 10 let alone at No. 3
@hallower1980 @Reverandjames I’m curious as to why you both preferred Odyssey over Valhalla? I’ve heard nothing but good things about Valhalla over Odyssey.
I’ve recently gone back to playing Odyssey and while it’s a good game the world map just seems too big and the amount of quests makes it bloated. Then you’ve got the slow XP progression which also makes the game a grind. I’m thinking about Valhalla when I get the Series X, the Viking setting is right up my street after watching Vikings on Amazon Prime.
@MaccaMUFC It probably depends on what kind of gamer you are. I prefer action and exploration to narratives, so it doesn't bother me much to not complete a main storyline or face an endless number of quests and objectives. I love games like Skyrim and Odyssey that are almost endless.
The combat feels very different. I enjoy it in both Odyssey and Valhalla. But movement in Odyssey feels more fluid and controlled.
Skill progression in Odyssey is easier to plan. Valhalla's tangled web of skills is probably cool when you allow "fate" to auto-assign points. I will choose that option on my second playthrough, whenever that is.
I'm very tempted to buy Cyberpunk again now that I have a Series X. But it will be a while before the AI and systems are really how the developers want players to experience them.
The 2nd "Templar" boss in Valhalla I assassinated without knowing she was anything more than a regular enemy. I killed her from behind and the screen faded to black (for a cutscene). I thought a bug had frozen the game and would make me reload, lol.
@hallower1980 @Reverandjames I might just rent Valhalla then, if I really like it I’ll buy it but if not then I’ll get it in a sale when it’s heavily discounted. I could just keep renting it but I tend to just buy big open-world games that takes months to complete, especially with my limited playing time.
Looks like the only game I’ll buy when I eventually get the Series X is Enlisted, everything else I’ll rent and play games that I own on my One X that have been optimised for Series X.
Cyberpunk is pretty good after latest update just need some polish to be honest big update coming at the start of january if ea or Activision dropped in that state people would act like it was normal gotta give it a second chance.
