Metacritic Calls The XIII Remake The Worst Xbox Game Of 2020

The XIII Remake launched last month, with both critical and fan feedback being mostly negative. Its reception was so bad that the developer even issued an apology for the game's technical issues.

And now, Metacritic has released its list for the Worst Videogames of 2020, with the number two spot being taken by XIII Remake on Xbox One. It's only beaten by Tiny Racer, which is a Nintendo Switch console exclusive.

"Games are ranked by Metascore (as of December 15, 2020) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews from professional critics are excluded. If a single title would have landed on the list multiple times due to low scores on more than one platform, we only included the lowest-scoring version."

Metacritic's blurb for XIII's position reads:

"A remake of Ubisoft's 2003 first-person shooter (itself an adaptation of the Belgian graphic novel series), this buggy Microids release made numerous (often drastic) changes to the original's gameplay and look, and fans weren't happy, forcing the developer to issue a formal apology."

  1. Tiny Racer (Switch)
  2. XIII Remake (Xbox One)
  3. Dawn of Fear (PlayStation 4)
  4. Fast and Furious Crossroads (PC)
  5. Arc of Alchemist (Switch)
  6. Remothered: Broken Porcelain (PC)
  7. Tamarin (PlayStation 4)
  8. Street Power Soccer (PlayStation 4)
  9. Gleamlight (Switch)
  10. The Elder Scrolls: Blades (Switch)

It's a shame the game released in the state it did, and we don't think anyone would have really minded if it was delayed till 2021 to iron out numerous issues. According to our sister site Nintendo Life, the original XIII title actually sold more copies in the same week as the remake. Yikes! Let's hope it can turn itself around next year.
