Microsoft is enhancing a bunch of its first-party titles for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10th, and one of them is Forza Horizon 4, which now runs at 4K, 60 frames per-second on Series X.
As you can see from the video above, the gameplay is super smooth in this version of the game. It also looks fantastic, and benefits from considerably reduced loading times across the board.
We've been fortunate enough to go hands-on with Forza Horizon 4 for Xbox Series X as part of our review of the system, and can attest that it's a fantastic upgrade for one of the best racing games in recent memory.

@FraserG how big is the file size for the Series X update?
Any impressions/info on how it runs on the S by chance?
@VenomousAlbino 81.9GB!
@redd214 Here's what The Verge said about it (1080p, 60FPS):
"Forza Horizon 4 also feels much smoother than what I’ve experienced on the Xbox One S version of the game running at 30fps."
@FraserG wait, what? So if I move Forza Horizon 4 from my external HDD over to the Series X SSD, there's an 82GB update? That's mental. I'm going to be playing nothing on Tuesday, what with all the Series X and One X updates that'll be queued up.
@FraserG Perfect, exactly the info I was looking for! You're on it today bro!!
@VenomousAlbino So, for review purposes, I had to initially download Forza via a different method than usual.
I already had it on my internal drive (the Xbox One version), but it downloaded again from scratch for Series X. I don't know if that's going to be the case post-launch, but I'm assuming so.
@AJDarkstar I can't say I've tried, but I'm assuming not. There's no option to lock to 30 as far as I can tell.
I've had to stop playing this on my PC because it didn't keep my saves always...it's something with the PC i believe but I'm not a techy. I'll be carrying on with the game on my XSX and I can't wait. Was a lot of fun and now it will just look even better. I'll get Forza 7 to try as well but I'm thinking this will be my permanent racing game on the system.
I guess all embargos are lifted now? I'm very interested to see how Forza Horizon 2 and 3 look/play. We know MS can overrride some locked frame rates, so 4K/60FPS Horizon 3 would be amazing.
I play the game periodically on my Xbox One X. I never really noticed just how well this game handles LOD transitions
@FraserG damn, I assumed if the One version of a game was on the system and a Series X optimisation was available, an update would be downloaded, not the entire game. That throws my "move stuff over from my HDD" strategy out the window. If I'm going to need to redownload everything anyway, then there's no point in moving it from the HDD to Series X in the first place.
@VenomousAlbino I'm pretty sure it's been stated by the bearded Xbox engineer that it's just a patch you need to download and not the whole game when upgrading to the optimized titles. He's said it in multiple interviews if i recall correctly.
I played quite a bit of this at 1080p 60fps on the One X and whilst it felt great I always missed the visuals of the 4K mode, now we can have the best of both worlds
@VenomousAlbino It's the same as Xbox One X, updates can be downloaded and installed automatically while you play some other game or the console is in standby mode (instant-on). The only difference is that you'll need to move games to internal SSD/expansion card for playing.
I love backwards compatibility and all but it would have been nice if XSX had launched with Forza Horizon 5 (rumoured to be set in Japan) or even a full-on remaster of the original game with glorious ray-traced autumnal sunsets over Colorado and a few more off-road sections coded in.
They'd have to keep the boss races and smack talk though. As much as I love the sequels, going through the 'story' and trying to beat racing sellout Darius Flynt was a lot more compelling than racing against a league table of random Xbox gamertags.
@RadioHedgeFund
I imagine Forza Motorsport 8 will be out next year from Turn10, then probably Forza Horizon 5 the year after from Playground.
