We're all well aware that backwards compatibility is fantastic on Xbox Series X (and Series S), but unfortunately games with framerate caps are still forced to run at 30 frames-per-second in certain cases.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of those games, but it also supports fan-created mods, allowing you to reportedly uncap the framerate and play the game at a smooth 60FPS with an in-game mod called Uncap FPS.
It's worth noting that we haven't tested this, so try it at your own risk - and activating the mod apparently disables Achievements - but nevertheless it certainly appears to deliver impressive results on Microsoft's new console.
If you can wait, though, we're assuming Bethesda will eventually enhance Skyrim for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in an official capacity, with optimisations for DOOM Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Online already in the works.
Have you tried this mod? Let us know your thoughts on it in the comments below.

Be careful if you are playing this for the first time, I think that mods disable achievements.
Bought this on 360, PS3, PC, PS4, PSVR. Still never completed it. Always came across a bug that stopped it from being possible but always bought for the next machine hoping 'this will be the one that works'. Every time I played it felt different enough but made me realise I should leave Bethesda games alone. Same issue happened for Fallout 4 and couldn't complete that game either. Shame as I do enjoy what parts of the game that can be played. Would hate to see how many hours that totals up to!
Edit: Have to admit the PSVR reason was I felt too sick when running so had to walk only. No chance I'd complete it like that though.
Got it on the 360, got it on Steam, got it for Steam VR. My VR headset is dead but a new one is pre-ordered. I kinda wanted to buy it again x 3 combo on the Switch Black Friday sale for motion controls but the new VR headset will come eventually.
A preview of the inevitable next gen port they'll charge you for and will be stupid enough to buy, eh?
That could be interesting. Draw distance is the mod or upgrade I most hope for. Skyrim already benefits from being able to see landmarks on the horizon, so there is always a point of interest beckoning. If vegetation and NPC/beast populating stretched much farther, the world would feel more alive.
I'm sure MS will make this happen at some point.
They need to add Skyrim to gamepass soon. I've never finished it on PS3 and those crazy loading screens were a big part. I'd love to play it again with that SSD.
@Menchi could be included with game pass though!
@Krzzystuff
I think it will , along with all Zenimax games, once the deal officially goes through next year.
@Krzzystuff
All of Bethesda’s games will end up on Game Pass eventually since Microsoft now owns them. It’s just a matter of when.
@KelticDevil @blinx01 i figure they will all come eventually but the deal isn't going to close until March or April so I wonder how quickly they will throw games in. I figure a few titles each month most likely, maybe do a whole IP per month? So get all the Wolfenstein games one month, all elder scrolls another? Since Skyrim is so old I was hoping they throw that in early... like next month kinda early.
What you guys think?
@Krzzystuff
It's possible since they got Doom Eternal in, and Dishonored 2 was due to leave before the deal was announced, and that's still in Game Pass.
I guess they will drip feed us the games to spread it out.
Maybe another game for December?
@Krzzystuff
Yea I agree they’ll probably drip feed games in so they can up their per month games added #s.
I’m sure, at this time, they probably still have to work “deals” out to get them on there.
@Kefka2589
Like you, I own almost all Bethesda games physically anyways. Them coming to Game Pass would certainly take some wear & tear off of my disc drive, though.
Plus, Game Pass games get me Reward points so I can get free stuff. 👍🏻
